Young Justice 2.06

Bloodlines

Bart Allen arrives from the future traveling in a time machine. The machine arrives in Mount Justice. Nightwing, Robin, and Beast Boy are there when he arrives. They don't trust that he is who he says is is, at first. They manage to capture him, but he escapes before too long. He adopts the name Impulse and tells them who he is, the grandson of Barry Allen (the Flash), before he leaves.

Impulse shows up at Barry's and Iris' place in Central City. They are getting ready to celebrate Jay and Joan Garrick's 70th wedding anniversary. He introduces himself. Barry protests. They don't have any kids but then Iris explains that she just found out that morning that she is pregnant. Bart tells them that it is going to be twins.

Kid Flash shows up but Flash and Impulse quickly leave to deal with a situation in downtown Central City. There's a person with superpowers, Neutron, wrecking havoc. They have a little trouble dealing with him but eventually they manage to keep him from causing too much damage. Before it is all over Wally and Jay have joined them. The ultimate key to negating Neutron's destructive powers is a device that Bart pulls out of his uniform.

Cheshire and Red Arrow head to Tibet. They break into the temple looking for the original Roy Harper. Cheshire believes that her Roy (Red Arrow) needs this as she told him in 2.04. They eventually find him, after fighting their way through numerous guards. They open the case that he is in. He falls out into Red Arrow's arms. He is missing most of his right arm.

The episode ends with two scenes. In the first one, Impulse tries to return to the future, only to discover that his time machine no longer works. The second one mirrors a scene from the beginning of the episode which showed Bart leaving from 40 years in the future. There is someone with him. It is Neutron. He seems to be wearing a collar, maybe to contain his destructive powers. Once Bart disappears something seems to change for the better but Neutron is confused when the time machine does not return.

Thoughts

I'm not a huge fan of the Flash and the legacy of characters that surround him. I don't have enough knowledge to geek out about this episode in the way that some might.

I'm still not sure what to make of the two Roys. Does Cheshire have any ulterior motive in getting him to help her? Has she really broken from the Light?

Who were those aliens who seemed to be keeping an eye on Neutron from a distance. I wasn't sure what to make of their muttering.

The final scene reminded me of Days of Future Past. It looked like the world was a wasteland. Did anyone see what Bart did to Neutron? It seemed like the others recognized Neutron but I have no idea who he is.

On the whole this was a really good episode but it left me with more questions than answers.
