Edge of Seventeen (2016)

Starring Hailey Steinfeld, Woody Harrelson
Directed by Kelly Fremon Craig

Nadine (Steinfeld) goes a little around the bend when Krista (Haley Lu Richardson), her best and only friend, starts dating Darian (Blake Jenner), Nadine's older brother. She doesn't get along with her mother (Kyra Sedgwick). Her father has been dead for a few years. She directs her angst at Mr. Bruner (Harrelson), her history teacher. She has a number of conversations with him over the course of the movie.

Erwin, a guy her history class, tries hitting on Nadine but she sees him as a nice guy and not the sort of guy she wants to date. Nadine is interested in Nick, another classmate, who works at Petland. She brushes off Erwin and does what she can to get Nick interested in her. She accidentally sends him a fairly explicit message. She meant to delete it. It leads to an awkward encounter with Nick.

Nadine eventually manages to make peace with her situation and gets her life back on track.

Thoughts

There's a good mix of humor and drama. Woody Harrelson was brilliant in it. I loved his reactions to some of Nadine's outbursts. All of the performances in this movie were great.

This was really good. I was very impressed by it. I'm not sure everyone will appreciate it for what it is but I think it is worth a look.
