Boss Borot is Here!
Everyone gets up early on New Year's Day and goes to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise. They are dressed in kimonos. They return to the ranch to celebrate after the sun has risen. Danbei has a little too much to drink and falls asleep.
Hikaru flirts with Daisuke. She doesn't say it but it is pretty clear that she likes the way he looks in a kimono.
Boss, Nuke, and Mucha, three of Kouji's friends from his time with Mazinger Z, come to visit in their robot, Boss Borot. The Vegans send a minifo to investigate Boss Borot. They quickly decide to destroy it. They plant bombs on it and then send Dorio Dorio, a saucer beast, to destroy it.
Kouji in the TFO and Duke Fleed in Grendizer come to the rescue and destroy the saucer beast.
Notes
Mazinger Z started as a manga series in 1972. It was adapted into a 92-episode anime series in late 1972. The series ran from December 1972 to September 1974. Mazinger Z was a giant robot which was piloted by Kouji Kabuto. The series was adapted into English with a number of changes. The English language version of the series was titled Tranzor Z. Only 65 episodes were dubbed into English. Mazinger Z was destroyed at the end of the series.
Great Mazinger was a second anime series. It ran for 56 episodes from September 1974 to September 1975. Tetsuya Tsurugi was the pilot of Great Mazinger. Tetsuya was an orphan who was raised by Kenzo Kabuto, Kouji's estranged father.
UFO Robo Grendizer is the successor to Great Mazinger. It debuted in October 1975 and ran for 74 episodes, ending in February 1977.
Thoughts
This episode is a holiday episode and it helped to peak my interest in learning about the lineage of the show.
This episode doesn't stand on its own very well. Without the internet I would have been completely lost as to who the visitors in this episode are. Borot is an anagram of robot.
