Young Justice 2.12

True Colors

Atom and Bumblebee shrink and are inserted into Jaime Reyes bloodstream. They attempt to surgically remove the scarab from the inside. The scarab fights back and they are forced to abandon their mission. Jaime is stuck with the scarab for now.

Nightwing assembles a team to infiltrate LexCorp's food factory in Smallville, KS. Robin leads the team which also includes Blue Beetle, Impulse, and Arsenal. They pose as tourists and join a tour of the factory. They hide in the facility and emerge after the factory has shut down for the night.

Sportsmaster presents his grievances to the leaders of the Light. He wants retribution for the death of Artemis. He wants Aqualad dead. His request is denied. He takes a shot at Black Manta and is then forced to flee the Light's West Mongolia headquarters after they sick Deathstroke on him.

The team that infiltrated LexCorp Smallville find what they are looking for and start to leave. Arsenal goes off script and blows up some of the food production facility. This blows the heroes' cover and leads them directly into a confrontation with Black Beetle. Lex Luthor is watching the whole event unfold from a distance.

Black Manta and Vandal Savage go to see Kaldur'ahm who is still in a coma. He has yet to recover from the brain blast that Miss Martian used on him in 2.10. Vandal Savage promises that the Light will take care of Black Manta's son. He brings in Psimon to restore Kaldur's mental facilities.

The battle at LexCorp Smallville spills outside. Black Beetle seems to be too much for the four heroes. Things go from bad to worse when a Green Beetle shows up but he turns out to be on their side. He helps them knock out Black Beetle.

The team evacuates and heads to the Kent's farm. The Green Beetle explains his origins. He is from Mars. He had an experience similar to Jaime. A scarab attached itself to him but it was unable to gain control over him because it was unfamiliar with his physiology.

Luthor seems unperturbed by the damage caused to his operation in Smallville. He seems perfectly okay with the fact that the heroes returned. He also shows an interest in starting a team of youngsters that work for the Light. He shows Vandal Savage pictures of some prospects for that team. The kids in the pictures are ones that were rescued from the Reach by the Heroes in 2.10.

Thoughts

Why is the Light working with the Reach? What's in it for them? They must have an angle. No self-respecting villain operates without one. For the moment they seem a little too content to help the Reach.

What's next for Sportsmaster? He still wants revenge. He's no longer a member of the Light but how is he going to play into the events for the remainder of the season?

What will happen if Psimon starts digging around in Kaldur'ahm's head? He's bound to find out that he's a spy and probably about Artemis.

Arsenal is the new loose cannon.

I enjoyed this episode. The battle with Black Beetle was a little scary. He seems to be just a little too powerful for the heroes to beat. They got lucky this time but I'm sure that there will be a next time.
