Young Justice 2.14

Runaways

Virgil, Tye, Sam, and Ed (the teens who are being kept at the STAR Labs building in Taos, NM) decide that they've had enough and break out. Newt is the only one to stay behind. He pulls the alarm just as they are getting ready to leave. Newt thinks that he and the world are better off with him at STAR Labs than out in the world. Nightwing sends Blue Beetle to recover the runaway teens.

Blue Beetle catches up to them just as STAR Labs security has caught up to the runaways. He convinces the security detail that he will bring them back to the lab. He has to reveal his true identity to them before he wins them over. He gets another call from Nightwing while they are on their way back to the lab. Red Volcano has attacked STAR Labs in Taos and is after the body parts of Amazo. There are no other superheroes in the area. Jaime leaves the others behind and heads back to STAR Labs.

Blue Beetle and Red Volcano duke it out. Blue Beetle gets very aggressive with his powers. Their fight threatens to destroy the STAR Labs building. The runaways arrive on the scene just in time to save the civilians in the building. Beetle destroys Red Volcano. He loses track of the runaways when reporters show up to find out what happened to the STAR Labs building.

Blue Beetle meets up with Green Beetle and expresses frustration at letting the runways escape. Green Beetle consoles him. They are joined by Black Beetle who reveals that Green Beetle rebooted Jaime's beetle such that the scarab is now in charge.

The runaways head back to the deserted bus station where STAR Labs security force caught up to them. They are trying to decide what to do next when they are approached by Lex Luthor. He offers to help them.

The runaways are

Virgil - electrical powers
Sam - wind powers
Tye - power to project a giant form
Ed - teleportation power

Thoughts

Not my favorite episode. Nothing against any of these new characters but I think this episode suffered because it didn't have any of the regular cast of the show other than Blue Beetle and two very brief moments with Nightwing.

I think its a bit strange that Blue Beetle was able to find the runaways fairly quickly the first time around but then loses them fairly easily at the end of the episode.

A group of characters with powers similar to the ones possessed by the runways was introduced in JLU. They were clones who showed up in a number of episodes of that show.
