Fargo 4.06

Camp Elegance

Ethelrida comes home and finds her parents waiting for her with a birthday cake. This scene felt very creepy, almost like a dream. Something was wrong but the scene doesn't last very long.

Detective Weff comes home, goes to pee, and gets jumped. Loy Cannon and his men were waiting for him. Weff is hyperventilating as he tries apologizing for the raid, explains that it was Josto's call, even offers to return the money that way taken but Cannon tells him to keep it. Loy tells Weff that he's going to going to help him in the gang war that has erupted. Weff says he will. Cannon and his gang leave. Marshall Wickware watches them from a distance as they leave the building.

Gaetano Fadda is holed up with some of his men. He seems to be expecting trouble. A car pulls up to the house. There are women in it. He sees them enter the building. He hears gunfire. One of his men goes downstairs leaving him alone. Gaetanon hears footsteps. He empties his revolver through the door but it is one of his own men he's just killed. Swanee and Zelmaire show up. Swanee gets the drop on him and shoots him in the back of the head.

Gaetano wakes up. He has a chain around his neck and his arms tied behind his back. Loy Cannon proceeds to lecture him before cutting one of his men loose on him. Gaetano starts laughing uproariously as Cannon's man goes to work.

Doctor Harvard confronts Nurse Mayflower about the anonymous note he received about her behavior and the mysterious deaths that happened on her watch at her previous job. She asks to see the letter but he won't let her read it. She pleads with him and he agrees to not pass it on to human resources. She gets a very brief glimpse at the letter.

The Fadda consigliere returns from New York and brings a few men with his. Calamita interupts the meeting to tell Josto that his brother is missing. Josto is ready to write off his brother as a loss. The Fadda consigliere tells him that New York gives him two weeks to clean things up and that he has to make amends with his brother.

Cannon has another chat with Weff. He tells Weff to bring him Satchell. Weff is hesitant but Cannon tells him that it's not a request but an order. Weff goes to the Fadda house. Satchell is there with Milligan. Weff waffles and in that moment Calamita shows up. He's there to take Weff to see Josto. Weff walks in to Jostso's office with Calamita. Josto is in the middle of a conversation with the consigliere.

Josto orders Weff to find out where his brother is being held. Weff is speachless but leaves after Josto yells at him. Calamita and the consigliere get into an argument. Josto questions the loyalty of Calamita. He orders them both out of his office and tells them to send Dumini, one of his other men. Josto then orders Dumini to go get Satchell and "take care of him". He doesn't care what happens to his brother and he's willing to take his chances with his own son's safety.

Dumini goes to the Fadda house with a heavy heart. He doesn't want to kill Satchell. He tells Milligan to go see Josto. He tells Satchell to grab his jacket. They are going for a ride. Milligan meets with Josto, who tells him that he's "back in the game". Milligan asks him about Satchell but Josto tells him to forget about him, he's done. Josto drives off.

Dumini takes Satchell to Camp Elegance. He tells him about how he came to the United States and shows him where he wrote his name in blood on a stone. Dumini pulls out his gun and is ready to shoot Satchell but at the last second Milligan shows up and kills him. He tells Satchell that they have to leave, go into hiding until things cool down.

Nurse Mayflower exits a patient's room with a smile on he face as the closing music swells.

Thoughts

There was very little of Ethelrida and her parents in this episode. Marshall Wickware, Zelmaire, and Swanee only made brief appearances. Weff probably got about as much screen time as he has received to date in any episode. Doctor Senator makes a brief appearance in a flashback that Loy has.

I kind of wish Gaetano was dead. I thought he was dead when Swanee shot him in the back of the head. My first reaction was that it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. I guess she hit the side of his head and only grazed him with her shot. I don't think Gaetano's going to survive but as long as he's alive there's plenty of opportunity for him to mess things up.

Weff is in a world of shit. I thought for a moment that he might suggest to Josto that he trade Satchell for Gaetano but he didn't. He doesn't strike me as the sort of guy that can think on his feet. Wickware is going to step back in to the story at some point and I've got a feeling that his path will cross Weff's at that time.

One thing that I missed but that the guys on Bald Move Fargo podcast picked up is that Nurse Mayflower may know what Ethelrida's handwriting looks like. Ethelrida left her diary in Nurse Mayflower's closet back in Episode 4.04. If Nurse Mayflower compared the letter that Doctor Harvard received to the handwriting in the diary she might be able to connect the dots. It isn't clear at this point if Nurse Mayflower found the diary or is aware that Ethelrida went into her closet. I think that she probably has but there is no evidence to date to indicate that she did.

It's hard to believe that there are still 5 episodes to go in this season. I expect that there won't be much of Satchell and Milligan in the next episode or two. It kind of reminds me of season two when Ed and Peggy went on the run, but I'm pretty sure there was only an episode or two to go in the season when that happened.
