Dear White People 3.02

Chapter II

Reggie pressures Joelle to make a public statement about their relationship. She does and then he proceeds to avoid her for a couple days. He hibernates in his room and plays video games. She needs his help working on the by-laws for the Black Caucus but he stays away until it is too late to help out.

The one time Reggie does see Joelle is when he stops by the radio station. She is on air interviewing Moses Brown about his career and the app he is developing. Reggie winds up spending a considerable amount of time with Moses while once again avoiding Joelle.

Reggie doesn't know it but someone else is romantically interested in Joelle, Rashid. Rashid offers to help Joelle with the by-laws but she declines the offer. Rashid notices that Reggie and Joelle haven't been together in public for a couple days. He eventually approaches Joelle and tells her about his feelings. She doesn't feel the same way about him.

The episode ends with Rashid accepting an offer to move out of Armstrong-Parker and into a dorm which has a floor filled with students from Africa. He unfriends Joelle on social media which she learns of through her social media tracker just as she arrives at Reggie's room.

Thoughts

Gabe is not in this episode. Muffy is in this episode. She is a guest on Joelle's radio program (Dear White People) at the beginning of episode and later flirts with Moses Brown at the coffee house.

Moses Brown (Blair Underwood) is the character who gave the speech that won over Al in the previous episode. He's a former professor who left Winchester to work for Google. He's an entrepreneur now. I'm not convinced that his motives aren't less than selfish. He gives a talk at the coffee house in this episode. A number of people are there including Samantha and Lionel, both of whom notice something about his ring.

I like this episode better than the last one. It has a through line that is a little easier to describe. I'm not sure if there is a single main character. The only correct answer to that question is that the main character is jointly Joelle, Reggie, and Rashid.
