Andrea, the efficiency expert, makes everyone take a polygraph test. Lisa has something to hide, a criminal record.
Mr. James invites Dave to a reading of his book which is a big hit in Japan. He's had it translated back into English but he doesn't get a chance to proof the retranslated book before the reading.
Thoughts
Dave Allen, whom I know best for his role as the guidance counselor on Freaks and Geeks, plays an employee of the book store. He also shows up in an episode from season 5.
Brian Posehn plays the part of a person at the reading who asks Jimmy some questions about the book. He also shows up in another episode from season 4.
Matthew shows up in this episode even though he was fired in the previous one.
I thought this episode was a lot of fun. It started slow but there were a couple scenes that really got to me. The first was Dave's polygraph test and the second was the one at the book store. Not all the jokes landed but I thought some of them were very funny. I loved how Dave attempted to pretend that he was a worse person than was and fooled no one. I similarly loved how Mr. James attempted to take advantage of his book's success in Japan and how that didn't exactly work out.
