Justice League 2.07.B

Eclipsed - Part 2

The police interrogate General McCormick but fail to get any useful information from him. He doesn't remember what he did or why he did it. Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and the Flash leave the police station and are attacked by Mophir, who instantly recognizes that Wonder Woman is possessed by the Black Diamond. He stops her and is about to kill her when the Flash intervenes.

Green Lantern takes Wonder Woman back to the Watchtower. She still has the Black Diamond. The Flash takes Mophir to a hospital where the is put into a straight jacket. Flash isn't ready to believe Mophir until he repeats something that General McCormick said, about the end of the world. Flash pulls up a chair and gets the full story from Mophir. He learns about the Ophidians, a race of reptile-like humanoids, who created the Black Diamond and infused it with their essence.

Flash returns to the Watchtower with Mophir's red diamond. He quickly discovers that Green Lantern is now possessed by the Black Diamond. Green Lantern smashes Mophir's diamond. All the members of the team are there except Batman. They defeat Green Lantern. Hawkgirl smashes the Black Diamond with her mace. Shards go flying everywhere. The Flash dodges all the shards that come his way but the others wind up with shards buried in their skin. They are all possessed by the Black Diamond.

The Flash makes a run for it but he has no way to escape from the Watchtower. Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Superman, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkgirl pursue him. The Flash finally stops them with a really bright light. The light has some effect on the shards which come loose from their skin. They have another problem to deal with because Green Lantern, while still under the control of the Black Diamond, launched a device at the sun which threatens to turn it dark.

Green Lantern and Flash team up to get near the sun and create a wormhole to siphon off the bad stuff that was infecting the sun. The day is saved.

Flash decides to give up on his career in endorsing products. Mophir takes his place.

Thoughts

On the whole this is a pretty good one. I liked it up to the point where Flash used a bright light on his teammates. It got a bit silly after that. Why did there have to be a device that was going to destroy the sun? I don't get it. Why couldn't the end of the story have been the fight on the Watchtower which ultimately ends once everyone is restored and the diamond is destroyed or put away for safe keeping like the ark in Raiders? I think I would have preferred that.
