Dear White People 3.03

Chapter III

Brooke is trying has written a couple articles but she needs Lionel to edit them. She has trouble chasing him down.

Lionel goes to a party. He's narrating his own story but in a different voice, a deeper voice. He tries to act cool but he doesn't really know what he is doing.

Sam is supposed to be making a movie. She tries to get into a film making program that is being run by a famous film maker, Skylar Groggins. She doesn't really prepare for the interview and gets turned down.

Sam spots Lionel when she's at the coffee shop. She tries talking to him about the ring she saw on Moses Brown's hand in the last episode. Lionel acts like he doesn't know what she is talking about. He seems to have lost all interest in the secret society until he spots the narrator in library. He runs to get Sam and together they meet the narrator. Lionel leaves the meeting, frustrated with the narrator who is reluctant to tell them more than he does.

Brooke gets her stories published after she guesses Lionel's password, Silvio. Sam writes a message to her favorite film maker. Lionel continues to write and narrate his story.

Thoughts

Skylar Groggins is clearly supposed to be an alternate take on Tyler Perry. Troy and Reggie are not in this episode. The coffee shop seems to be the new gathering spot. Does Coco have an arc this season? Coffee seems to be a big part of her story, so far.

I'm not sure what to make of the season at this point. I've got a feeling it will probably make more sense once I have seen the whole season or possibly on a re-watch.
