Dear White People 3.05

Chapter V

It is Parents Weekend.

Coco tries to get a recommendation from a prestigious professor but he isn't receptive and gives her a hard time. She has an anxiety attack in the middle of class. She starts hallucinating. She sees the daughter she thought she would have had if she had not had an abortion in last season.

Sam texts her dead father and works on the short Jerry Skyler told her to do.

Evelyn, Coco's mother shows up unexpectedly, while Coco is having coffee with Muffy. Coco is mortified and doesn't introduce her mother until Muffy forces the issue. Muffy had already invited Coco to brunch the next day and extends an invitation to Evelyn.

Brooke continues to hit on Kelsey. They hookup, Brooke spends the night. The next morning is awkward, mostly for Brooke. Coco winds up spending the night with Kurt. She meets her mother plus Muffy (and her mother) for brunch the next day. Evelyn does more stuff that embarrasses Coco.

Sam continues to text her father until someone responds, not her father. She calls her mother and they have a chat. Coco snaps at her mother but apologizes later on.

Thoughts

Nicole Yvette Brown. whom I know primarily from Community, plays Evelyn Connors.

This was a decent episode. I like how it flows and the way the stories are layered together. I guess Coco got the most screen time but Sam also got a fair amount of it. Still no sign of Joelle. Troy and Reggie each get a scene.
