Grendizer's Counter Attack

The battle that began in the previous episode does not go well for Duke Fleed. He breaks free but Grendizer is damaged. He wants to return to the space center for repairs but the space center is too damaged for him to land there. Duke Fleed uses Grendizer's anti-radar mist to create a smoke screen and then escapes in the confusion.
Kouji continues to fight the Vegans. He holds his own against the Minifos but he is no match for the two saucer beasts that already gave Duke Fleed and Grandizer a hard time. The TFO is destroyed. Kouji ejects before his space ship blows up but the saucer beasts continue to pursue him.
Kouji makes it back to the space center in one piece but just barely. Duke Fleed leaves Grendizer in a big cave in the mountains, confident that no one can find it there. He transforms back into Daisuke and returns to the space center. There he discovers that Hikaru is in bad shape and in need of a transfusion. There is no time to get blood so he volunteers to provide his own alien blood.
The transfusion works and Hikaru is saved but then the whole Vegan fleet descends. Duke Fleed leaves and return to Grendizer. Professor Umon promises that they will bring him the air compressor he needs to fix Grendizer. Blaki and the Vegan foot soldiers take over the space center. They torture Professor Umon in an effort to get him to tell them where they can find Duke Fleed and Grendizer.
Hikaru get up from the bed in which she is recovering and beats up three guards. She finds Professor Umon and Kouji locked in a room. Kouji gives her a message for Duke Fleed. Hikaru fights her way out of the space center and finds the cave where Daisuke hid Grendizer. She gives him the message and then heads back to the space center. She is captured by the Vegans. She promises to lead them to Grendizer and Duke Fleed.
Hikaru leads the Vegans away from the space center. Daisuke uses that time to return to the space center. He frees Professor Umon and Kouji. They bring him the air compressor he needs to repair Grendizer. Duke Fleed fixes the giant robot and then takes off in search of the Vegans. He arrives just in time to save Hikaru. Blaki is tired of her shenanigans and throws her off a cliff but Grendizer catches her.
Grendizer deals with the Vegan Fleet and then with the two saucer beasts. Gandal escapes but Blaki is killed in the final battle.
Thoughts
According to Wikirak this is a key episode of the show.
I think the French title fits this episode better than the other two.
So many questions. How did Kouji survive falling back to Earth, especially after his ejector seat was destroyed? Why does he keep attacking the Vegans in the TFO? I guess he won't be doing that any more now that it has been destroyed.
How did Hikaru know where to find Grendizer? Where did she learn how to deal with Vegan soldiers like that? I could be wrong but I think that's the first time she has fought anyone, at least on this show. I think the display of her fighting skills may foreshadow further developments in her role on the show. I wonder if Hikaru's new found skills and confidence could be a side effect of the blood transfusion from Daisuke?
Hikaru, Kouji, and Professor Umon share a moment when she finds them. They all acknowledge that they know that Daisuke and Duke Fleed are the same person. This revelation should open up some new opportunities in future episodes.
This episode was a lot of fun to watch, even if a lot of things happened way too quickly and way too easily. I'm not as forgiving of more modern shows.
