The Terror Beyond - Part 2
Dr. Fate tries to close the rift opened by the space monster, Icthultu, but he is overwhelmed. Shayera comes to help him and together they are able to close the rift. Fate explains that the fight isn't over yet. He shows them how Icthultu once tried to invade Earth before. He was repelled by the forces of Atlantis but the the city sunk into the seas as a result of the battle.
Dr. Fate insists that they need to resume the ceremony but then Grundy asks why don't they just go Icthultu's realm and deal with him there. Dr. Fate agrees to that course of action. Everyone is on board except Aquaman who decides to return to Atlantis with his magical trident.
The others arrive in Icthultu's realm and go looking for him. They fight a lot of his creatures. Aquaman is dealing with a similar situation back n Atlantis. The battle is epic but eventually the heroes prevail. Hawkgirl delivers the killing blow with her mace but Grundy plays a crucial role. He and Hawkgirl bond and when Grundy is killed she is very sad. The heroes return to Earth and bury Grundy.
Thoughts
Batman, Green Lanterm, Martian Manhunter, and the Flash are not in this story.
I liked this one up to the point where it became little more than a series of fights. The best part was seeing Hawkgirl and Grundy become pals.
The ending brought a tear to my eye. I've seen this one before but I don't recall ever getting emotional over the ending before.
