The Call of the Star Flute
Captain Dainess of the Mazone fleet prepares a trap for the Arcadia on the Wind Planet. The Arcadia receives notice of an advance force of the Mazone fleet that is nearing Earth. Captain Harlock must decide whether to continue the search for Mayu or rush to Earth's defense. He opts to continue the search for Mayu, despite some arguments from the crew.
The ship changes course and heads for the Wind Planet after it picks up the sound of an Ocarina playing. The Wind Planet is a desolate place where the wind blows 60 to 90 miles per hour.
Captain Harlock, Daiba, and Miime descend to the planet's surface. They split up. Captain Harlock and Miime are in ground vehicles. Daiba is in a flying vehicle. The Arcadia continues to float high above.
Yattaran pilots the Arcadia and guides the ship but into a Mazone trap. The Arcadia's computer detects the trap and takes control of navigation and takes off before it is too late.
Captain Harlock finds Mayu. She is being held by Mazone soldiers. Captain Harlock descends from his vehicle. He is surrounded by Mazone warriors. He fights his way through them and reaches Mayu but it isn't her. It is a mechanical duplicate. Captain Harlock continues to fight the Mazone. Daiba and Miime catch up to Captain Harlock and help him to deal with the rest of the Mazone soldiers.
Captain Harlock and his crew leave the Wind Planet empty handed but determined to continue the search for Mayu.
Thoughts
How did Captain Harlock hear the Ocarina when they were still in space? I think this is one of those things that will never get explained to my satisfaction or possibly at all.
This was a decent watch but not jaw dropping great. I understand that they can't cut to the chase right away but this was a little less exciting than I wanted it to be. I like the tone of the show but it feels like it is dragging a little bit and taking its time getting to the next big confrontation.
