Doctor Who (1963) 19.04.01

The Visitation - Part One

England, 1666. A comet lights up the night sky. A father and his adult children are attacked soon after that.

The Doctor, Adric, Nyssa, and Tegan arrive in England in 1666. It was not their intended destination. Tegan is angry at the Doctor because he promised he was going to take her back to Heathrow. They go outside and look around. They see smoke and head towards it.

The Doctor and his companions are attacked by men wearing face masks. They fight a few of them off and then take off running. They get some help from a stranger who scares off the men chasing them. His name is Richard Mace. He takes them to his temporary living quarters, a barn.

The Doctor notices that Mace has a rather interesting thing on a chain around his neck. He takes a closer look and it pretty sure that it isn't from Earth. The Doctor decides that they need to have a look around. Nyssa finds some power packs.

The Doctor, Mace, and the others go to the house near the barn. Mace tries to discourage them from going there but they do anyway. The Doctor and Nyssa walk around outside the house and find a window that isn't secured. They look around inside the house but there's no one there.

The Doctor finds a flight of stairs that don't seem to lead anywhere. Nyssa goes to the front door and let's Tegan, Adric, and Mace in the house. She takes them to see the Doctor but he's not there. Someone or something locks the door to the room they are in. Where is the Doctor?

Thoughts

That was a weak ending to this episode. Not much of a cliffhanger. I've see worse but still. They're locked in but no one is freaking out.

All four of the regular cast members from this story are on the commentary track.

I have fond memories of this story. I believe I taped it off of tv back in the 1980s and watched it multiple times. It has been a long time since I last saw it and so far I'm not feeling all that great about it. There is still time to win me over.
