Showdown in Tokyo-3
Shinji and Unit 01 get blasted when they emerge from underground. Nerv recovers Unit 01 and Shinji survives. The Angel starts to burrow underground to Nerv HQ. Katsuragi comes up with a plan.
Unit 01 is quickly repaired. A giant gun is "borrowed" from the government. All Japan is blocked out so that the gun has enough energy to get the penetrate the Angel's armor. Shinji and Rei are sent out in Units 01 and 00, respectively. They use the big gun to blast the angel. The first shot misses but the second one hits its target and knocks out the angel.
Shinji and Rei have a couple moments together. The first occurs when he is still recovering from the first fight. The second happens after the second fight. They seem to have grown a little closer.
This was an okay episode but it was also not very complex. The Angel punches. Units 01 and 00 punch back. Hopefully the next episode is a better watch. Hopefully Shinji and Rei are beyond the extremely awkward stage now.
I still don't love this show. This episode doesn't make me feel any warmer towards it and yet I continue to watch.
