Orange Is the New Black 7.02

Just Desserts

Ramos is out on parole. She hooks up with an NBA player. He wants her to travel with him. She can’t but she really wants to.

Linda fires Fig. She decides that it is time for someone new to take charge of Litchfield. Hopper applies for the job. He thinks that he’s got it. Linda interviews a bunch of possible replacements for Hopper's current position.

Daya isn’t sure what to do about her current situation. She feels guilty about what happened to Daddy. Adeola approaches her with a plan. Daya and Adeola reach an agreement and start to execute their plan.

McCullough gets the backstory spotlight. She flashes back to her time in the Army. She recalls how she tried to fit in and how she got treated. Her memories of those days impact her actions in the present.

Vause is under a lot of pressure from Hellman to sell the drugs he gave her. She tries to plant drugs in his locker but gets caught doing so by McCullough. Vause explains what she was trying to do. McCullough takes the drugs and writes up Vause but then changes her mind. She goes back to Vause, gives her the drugs back, and suggests that Vause work for her instead of Hellman.

Ward is taking a night class that Caputo is teaching. She tells him about the opening for head guard. She asks him for advice and tells him that Linda is the one conducting the interviews. He tells her exactly what Linda will want to hear.

Suzanne comes to realize that it isn’t right for her to be held in Litchfield. She needs help of a sort that she can’t get in Litchfield.

Piper spends most of the episode looking after her brother’s child. She gets another chance to talk to Alex but not in person.

The episode ends with Ward being made the warden of Litchfield and Ramos getting arrested and thrown into an ICE detention center, where Flores is also being held.

Thoughts

Many of the characters who didn’t appear in the previous episode are in this one. Many of the characters who appeared in the previous episode are not in this episode. Ramos did not appear in Season 6.

Are Hellman’s days numbered? What’s next for Hopper and Aleida? What’s next for Daya and Adeola? Will Ward get a raise? Will Ward be a good warden? Will she get fired by Linda before she gets a chance to prove herself? I assume that Ramos will appear again because she is in the same ICE facility as Flores. How will Aleida react when she learns that Hopper did not get promoted.

I think I liked this episode a little better than the previous one. It was solidly good. The table is still being set.
