starring Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey, Winona Ryder
directed by Darren Aronofsky
113 minutes
Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman) is selected to play the part of the Swan Queen in Swan Lake. Nina lives with Erica (Barbara Hershey), her mother, who treats her like she is much younger than her actual age. Thomas (Vincent Cassel), the director, pushes Nina very hard, to include forcing himself on her. Lily (Mila Kunis), another dancer in the troupe, covets Nina's role and also encourages her to loosen up. Nina replaces Beth (Winona Ryder) as the star dancer in the troupe when she is selected for the role.
This was an intense watch. There were hints early on that not everything was at it seemed. It was confusing at times. It got to be more and more confusing the further I got into the movie. I'm glad I watched it. I might watch it again but not anytime soon. I'm not sure that it would make anymore sense but its possible that I might pick up on things that I missed this time around.
