Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 1.11

Vortex

Ah-Kel and Ro-Kel, two men from Miradorn, attempt to sell stolen goods in Quark's bar. One of them gets killed when Croden, a man from the Gamma quadrant breaks in and attempt to take the stolen merchandise  from them. A fight breaks out and Ro-Kel is killed by Croden.

Sisko and Dax locate Croden's planet, in the Gamma Quadrant. Odo is tasked with taking Croden back to Rakhar. Croden claims to know about Odo's people. Odo is intrigued and wants to know more but he suspects that Croden is lying.

Ah-Kel comes after Odo and Croden. He demands that Odo hand over the man who killed his brother. Odo refuses. Odo and Croden take refuge within a vortex. Croden has an ulterior motive for wanting to enter the vortex, his daughter is hidden there. She is the last surviving member of his family. The others were murdered. Croden is wanted by the authorities on Rakhar for killing those who killed the rest of his family.

Odo, Croden, and Yareth (Croden's daughter) stay one step ahead of Ah-Kel who winds up killing himself accidentally when he open fire on Croden in the midst of a volatile pocket of space within the Vortex.

Odo decides to let Croden and Yareth go. He allows them to transport aboard a Vulcan ship which will take them to Vulcan.

Thoughts

I watched this episode because I wanted to see an episode that focused on Odo. I got a little bit of that but there wasn't much else to the episode that interested me. All members of the regular cast are in this episode but most of them get very little screen time.

This was an okay episode. It is definitely one of the lesser episodes from this season that I have watched. I would put it dead last among the six episodes I have watched. It felt kind of forced in places. None of the guest stars added much to the episode.
