High Fidelity (2000)

High Fidelity (2000)

starring John Cusack, Jack Black, Iben Hjejle
directed by Stephen Frears

113 minutes

Laura (Iben Hjejle) dumps Rob (John Cusack). She moves out of his apartment and moves in with Ian, an older guy. Rob's life as a record store owner goes on but he doesn't know how to handle the break up. He makes a list of the top five heartbreaks of his life. He leaves Laura off the list at first but later reconsiders.

Rob reaches out to the four other women on his list in an effort to understand where he went wrong and why his heart has been broken at least five times. He doesn't give up on Laura and eventually his persistence pays off.

Thoughts

I've seen John Cusack in at least a dozen films. The most recent one I watched was Con Air (1997). Jack Black played Barry, one of Rob's two employees. I've seen him in a number of movies but none recently. Ian was played by Tim Robbins. I have seen him in at least six  other films, but none of them recently. I think the most recent thing I've seen him in was an episode of Moonlighting.

There are a few other actors in bit parts that I have seen in other movies: Lisa Bonet, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joan Cusack, Lili Taylor

I'm not crazy about this film. It was okay. There was one scene that made me laugh. The movie really didn't do very much for me outside of that one scene. I wasn't sure how I felt about Rob and Laura getting back together at the end of the movie.
