Portrait of Maddie

An artist named Philip Wright paints a portrait of Maddie and then kills himself. The police want to know what Maddie knows about Philip Wright. She doesn't know anything and tells the police detective investigating the apparent suicide just that.

Maddie decides to buy the portait with the little bit of profit that Blue Moon has made recently. Charlie Wright, Philip's brother, shows up the next day. He expresses regret at the loss of his brother. He seems sincere to Maddie and she decides to give him the portrait.

Charlie takes the picture to his brother's apartment and kills himself. Once again the detective investigating the case has Maddie come in for questioning. Maddie insists that she doesn't know anything.

David and Maddie go back to her place after the interrogation. They find her living room has been torn to shreds and there is a man there waiting for them. He tells them a story about a different painting, a stolen painting called the Duchess. He forces them at gun point to go to Philip's apartment and take the picture with them.

The man ties them up, after he finds a clue as to where the Duchess might be, and leaves. Maddie figures out where the painting might really be while she is tied up. She and David manage to get themselves untied and then go across the street to a car painting business. They find the painting but then someone else shows up.

Bilko's Insurance Company

Bilko decides to start an insurance company, Bilko of Baxter. He insures every soldier he can find. He is forced to scramble when he discovers that Wally Gunther and Sally Fisher, both of whom bought policies, have fallen in love. She is one of three triplets and he has a twin brother. The insurance policy pays out large amounts to insured families that have twins, triplets, or more.

Thoughts

Orson Bean played the part of Wally Gunther. Rain Winslow played the part of Sally Fisher. Bean and Winslow were married from 1956 to 1962. This episode first aired in 1958.

This was pretty good even though it is a little short on details about how the insurance policies work or how Bilko got the company set up as quickly as he did.

Stella (Barbara Stanwyck) is desperate to get away from the poor family life into which she was born. She finds a man, Stephen Dallas (John Boles), who grew up fairly well off. They get married but he isn't very exciting. They have a daughter together, Laurel (Anne Shirley). Stella dotes on Laurel but she also starts hanging out with Ed Munn, a gambler.

Stephen moves from Massachusetts, where Stella grew up and where they currently live, to New York, to work. More than a decade passes, Laurel grows up. Stella tries to give her daughter what she thinks she needs. Stella is very focused on the material things.

Luthor in Paradise

Lex Luthor invades Paradise Island, with some help from Circe. They are there for Queen Hippolyta's staff which can lead the to the Oculus of Argo, an ancient artifact which will give them the power of Zeus. Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman try to stop the supervillains.

Luthor and Circe get the staff and make their way to the Fallen Realm, the dimension where the artifact can be found. Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman (with some help from Queen Hippolyta) follow the supervillains to the Fallen Realm but don't arrive in time to prevent Luthor and Circe from getting their hands on the Oculus of Argo.

Monster Slayer

1971 - Fallstaff, AZ - An audacious daylight robbery of an armored car takes place. The guards are shot and killed. The robbers get away in a helicopter.

Present - Navajo Reservation - Anna Atcitty, a 19-year-old woman, and Hosteen Tso, an old man, are found dead in a motel room. She was in the bathroom. There is no apparent cause of her death. He was on the floor of the bedroom. His eyes are missing and his throat was cut. The only other person in the room was an old, blind woman. The old man had come to her for help because he was having pain in his back.

Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn returns the old woman to her daughter. The 19-year-old was the old woman's granddaughter. The father doesn't want to talk. He is angry about something and is holding a grudge against Leaphorn due to some past transgression, perceived or otherwise.

Greasers Johnny (Ralph Macchio) and Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell) get into a conversation with a couple of their classmates from high school, girls from the other side of town, at the drive-in one night. The girls’ boyfriends get jealous and take out their frustrations on Johnny and Ponyboy, whom they almost drown in a fountain. Johnny saves Ponyboy’s life but kills one of the Socs, the gang that hunted them down.

Johnny and Ponyboy turn to Dallas (Matt Dillon), an older kid who has spent time in prison or reform school. Dallas helps them find a place to lay low for a few days, outside of town. He comes to get them once things have cooled down a bit. They are still trying to figure out their next move when they become local heroes for rescuing several school children from a burning building.

Ponyboy isn’t badly injured but Johnny and Dallas are in bad enough shape that they wind up spending time in the hospital. Johnny is badly burned and paralyzed from at least the waist down. Ponyboy is torn between concern for his friend's health and what happens next.

The Killer Inside Me

Harvey Dent has trouble dealing with the aftermath of getting acid thrown in his face. He drops out of the mayoral race and stays home drinking until Bruce Wayne comes by and insists on taking him to dinner. Harvey's face is still bandaged up. He doesn't enjoy going out with Bruce. He leaves the restaurant, alone, halfway through the meal. 

Batman goes looking for Harvey. He finds him assaulting a mugger. Batman is after the men who assaulted Harvey. He doesn't try to stop Harvey from shooting the mugger in the knee.
