Doctor Who (1963) 14.04 Extras

Into the Wild (2012)
25 minutes

This is a documentary about the making of Face of Evil. There are a number of people interviewed for the documentary but the three who get the most screen time are Philip Hinchcliffe (producer), Mat Irvine (visual effects designer), and Louise Jameson (Leela).

The documentary opens with Hinchcliffe talking about how the story came together. They wanted to tackle an idea that hadn't been tried before: what if the Doctor returned to some place he had been before only to discover that he had an unintended affect on the locals.

Irvine talks about some of the effects they had to create for this story, like the face of the Doctor carved into the side of a mountain. There is also some attention paid to the set design.

The introduction of a new companion for the Doctor gets a fair amount of screen time. Louise Jameson talks about auditioning for the role, her working relationships with Tom Baker and director Pennant Roberts both during and after her time on Doctor Who, and her surprise when she learned how skimpy her costume was.

There are a few other people who are interviewed on camera for this documentary including Pennant Roberts (who died in 2010), Austin Ruddy (designer), and Anthony Frieze (child voice of Xoanon).
