Fargo 4.10

Happy

The gang war gets very hot. The Smutney funeral home gets lots of business from the Cannon gang. Weff arrests Josto and Gaetano, but they are out on bail fairly quickly. Loy Cannon turns to Happy, Leon's uncle, for help. Josto tries to to get Weff to play ball again but he isn't willing.

Satchell is on the move. Ethelrida talks to her mother about the family curse while they are sitting on the porch. Dibrell tells her a story about her great-grandfather and how the family curse began. Dibrell goes inside and leaves Lemuel and Ethelrida on the porch. Nurse Mayflower comes over. She acts civil and asks Ethelrida to come over to her place. Ethelrida declines the request. Nurse Mayflower gets uppity but she leaves after exchanging some more words with Ethelrida.

Leon and Happy go to meet with Josto. They aren't there on Loy's behalf. They are there to cut a deal for themselves. The meeting gets interrupted by Josto's future father-in-law. He's there to tell Josto that the wedding is off. Gaetano doesn't care for the tone his brother's future father-in-law takes and punches him. He runs off. Opal delivers the bad news to Loy, about Leon and Happy betraying them. Satchell pulls his gun on a couple rednecks who try harassing him on a country road. They run scared.

Weff gets a police escort home after he sees a couple of Loy Cannon's men waiting on the street outside the police station. Josto and Gaetano are waiting for him at his place. Joe Bulo leaves a little surprise for Weff in his apartment. Gaetano tells Josto about why their father sent him to Italy when he was young. Weff returns and finds that his apartment has been vandalized. He runs out and gets in his car but Gaetano gets to him before he can drive off. Gaetano shoots him several times but then trips on his way back to his car and accidentally shoot and kills himself.

Nurse Mayflower shows up at the Smutney house while everyone is still asleep. She gets into Ethelrida's bedroom.  She's got a syringe full of something and is ready to use it when the dead man shows up and scares her. She screams and runs back to her apartment, across the street. The police are waiting for her. They take her away in handcuffs. The Smutneys and Lemuel watch them drive away.

Ethelrida goes to see Loy Cannon the next day. She's there to cut a deal with the mob boss. He tells her that there isn't anything to discuss. She gets him to change his mind after she gives him the ring she took from Nurse Mayflower's closet, the ring that once belonged to Donatello Fadda.

Thoughts

I don't love this episode. I didn't care for the musical montage that opened the episode. It got a little interesting in the middle. The last scene felt completely out of place.

Did Loy's wife kill Zero? I got that impression from something he said but it wasn't clear to me.

Gaetano's death felt hollow. It wasn't a satisfying resolution to his story. Weff dies with a smile on his face. I can accept that.

Nurse Mayflower sneaking into the Smutney house seemed a little far fetched, unless she is a supernatural being.

What's left to resolve? The gang war, I guess. I honestly thought that they would resolve the gang war in this episode and then leave the show down between Ethelrida and Nurse Mayflower for the final episode. I was also surprised to see Satchell show up again. I surmise at this point that he will play an important role in the next episode.
