Orange Is the New Black 4.12

The Animals

Bailey tells Caputo about what happened the night before. He tells him about the fight instigated by Humphrey. He also tells him about Piscatella's investigation, not realizing that Caputo didn't know about the investigation. Caputo tries suspending Humphrey but Piscatella steps in and forces Caputo to back off. Caputo is not happy.

A multi-racial group of prisoners decides that they need to try to get Piscatella fired. There is lots of talk about what to do and how to proceed but there is also lots of disagreement.

Bailey gets the back story spotlight. He couldn't seem to do anything right when he was younger. He went along with what his friends wanted. It got him arrested for climbing a water tower and fired for giving away free ice cream.

Doggett is tired of the silent treatment from Boo. She wants to be friends again. She talks to Boo about it. Boo subsequently has a talk with Coates. She slaps him and warns him about harming Doggett.

Morello is still convinced that Vince is cheating on her with her sister. She calls him on the phone. Everything seems to be going okay until he mentions caramels. It sets her off.

Suzanne is in a funk over what she did in the last episode. She barely says a word for most of this episode.

Soso and Poussey start to make plans about what they will do once they get out of Litchfield. Poussey goes to talk to Judy King and inadvertently learns about the threesome Judy had with Yoga Jones and someone else. Judy offers her a job once she gets out of prison.

Burset is back from SHU. Mendoza tries helping her.

Chapman and Vause are back together again.

Healy checks himself into a psychiatric institution.

Caputo goes to see Figueroa. He's there to apologize to her and admit that the job is much harder than it seemed before he took it. She tells him that there are even more prisoners coming to the prison in the near future. She invites him in for a drink. He's hesitant but he ultimately accepts her offer.

Piscatella won't give Red a chance to sleep. She collapses in the cafeteria in front of everyone after he gives her a shove and tells her to get back to work. Flores gets up on a table in protest. She is followed by Chapman and then the rest of the prisoners in the cafeteria.

Piscatella orders the COs to drag the prisoners off the tables. Bayley winds up grabbing Poussey and pinning her to the ground. His hand is on her neck. She passes out and dies (?) in the midst of the struggle. The episode ends with Taystee crying over Poussey's body.

Thoughts

Berlin and CO Donaldson show up in one of Bayley's flashback scenes.

Will the incident in the cafeteria be enough to get Piscatella fired? Will any heads roll over it? Bayley? Caputo warned him earlier in the episode about continuing to work at Litchfield.

This wasn't overall the most upbeat episode but the ending made it seem abysmally dark. This is a well made episode. I can see the show lumbering toward the season finale but I'm not sure how much or in what way things will change in the final episode of the season.
