The Masque of Mandragora - Part 4
The Doctor escapes after Count Federico is vaporized by Hieronymous. He returns to find Sarah, Giuliano, and Marco still prisoners. Captain Rossini is about ready to kill them but his men defect to Giuliano's side once they learn that the Count is dead.
The Doctor gets some supplies (an armored breastplate and some wire) and prepares to confront Hieronymous. The Brethren have surrounded the palace and killed anyone who opposed them. Giuliano isn't sure about whether he should still have the masque (dance) that was planned for that evening but the Doctor says he should.
The Doctor returns to the chamber where the Brethren hold their ceremonies. He sets a trap for the Brethren but Hieyonmous shows up and tries to kill the Doctor. The masque begins in the palace above the catacombs. Sarah is dressed for it and is invited to dance.
The masque is interrupted by the Brethren, led by Hieronymous. They kill some of the merry makers and take the rest (including Sarah, Giuliano, Marco) to their ceremonial chamber. They gather round the altar and start to chant. Hieronymous steps back and allows the others to continue. There is a great light and the Brethren are all vaporized.
The Doctor reveals that it is he behind the mask that they thought was being worn by Hieronymous. The Doctor and Sarah bid farewell to Giuliano and then depart in the TARDIS.
Thoughts
They don't show or explain exactly how the Doctor dealt with Hieronymous. Presumably it had something to do with the wire he staked around the altar.
I don't understand exactly how the breastplate is supposed to protect the Doctor. Was it insulated so it wouldn't conduct electricity?
This wasn't the best Dr. Who story but I enjoyed watching it once again.
