UFO Robo Grendizer 2.07

Death of a New Weapon

or Sure Kill! The Mutant's End
or Les ailes de la mort (The Wings of Death)

Daisuke reinjures the old wound on his right arm, the red escher, while riding a horse. He was trying to avoid crushing an injured bird at the time and got thrown off the horse. Danbei gives Daisuke a hard time over falling off the horse in the manner he did. Goro gives his father a taste of his own medicine and stands up for Daisuke.

Zuril sends a squadron of minifos to attack the Earth. He wants his computer to study Grendizer and see if it can determine a weakness in the giant robot. Zuril's computer determines that Grendizer cannot fly when it is separated from the saucer section. It can only jump really good. Gandal is enraged when he finds out that Zuril sacrificed a whole squadron of minifos.

Zuril sends saucer beast Zari Zari from the planet Zari to destroy Grendizer. It is extremely fast because it comes from a planet where the force of gravity is much greater than it is on Earth. Grendizer attacks Zari Zari, gets separated from the saucer section, and is dealt a devastating blow.

Danbei and Kouji try to join the fight. Danbei is armed with a bow and a sword. Kouji is armed with a cyclone gun mounted on a jeep. Neither of them proves to be a match for the saucer beast.

Grendizer recovers. Duke Fleed remembers that he had a pet once name Zari Zari but it was much smaller. This saucer beast must be that pet after it was exposed to massive doses of radiation. Danbei and Kouji buy Duke Fleed some time. He rejoins the fight just in time to save them and destroy Zari Zari.

Thoughts

I'm not sure which of the titles for this episode makes the most sense. None of them seem to fit the bill or seem similar to the other two.

Lady Gandal appears in this episode.

The red eschar on Duke Fleed's arm was first mentioned in 2.04 (Story of the Red Eschar).

This episode has a few parts that are presumably supposed to fit together but don't really. The bit about the red eschar is brought up early in the episode but by the mid point it seems to have just faded away and doesn't really fit into the ending. The same can be said about Zuril's computer analysis of Grendizer's weaknesses.

This is not my favorite episode.
