The ship takes Jack and the Scotsman to the region of the ocean known as the Great Unknown. They hear music as they near an island. Everyone is hypnotized by the music except the Scotsman who says it sounds like a screaming cat.
Everyone disembarks once they arrive at the island. They take all their gold and treasure with them. They walk to a cave where they find a trio of singing women. Everyone is still hypnotized, except the Scotsman. The women get angry at him for insulting them and not falling prey to their magical voices. They order the others to attack the him.
The Scotsman breaks the spell over the others by playing his bagpipes. The women merge and take the shape of a three-headed monster. They start to crush him while he continues to play. Jack comes to his senses and finds his sword. He slays the monster before it can kill the Scotsman.
Everyone leaves the island in a rush. Jack and the Scotsman are left behind. They engage in a series of competitions before they leave. They see who can throw a stone the farthest, who can run the fastest, who can leap the highest, a game of tic tac toe, a sand castle building contest, and finally a thumb wrestling contest.
Thoughts
I like this episode but it does feel a bit odd. The battle with the three-headed monster ends fairly quicky. Jack doesn't seem like Jack for the most part. Even after the monster is dead he seems a little different than he usually does. I like this two-parter but I don't love it. It feels the Scotsman's episode or story, even though Jack kills the monster and bests him in every single contest.
