The Six Million Dollar Man: The Solid Gold Kidnapping (1973)

The Six Million Dollar Man: The Solid Gold Kidnapping (1973)

starring Lee Majors, Richard Anderson, Alan Oppenheimer
directed by Russ Mayberry

73 minutes

Steve Austin, the Six Million Dollar Man, teams up with a scientist, Dr. Erica Bergner, to try and locate and rescue an American negotiator. The best lead they have is the body of a man who was killed recently. Dr. Bergner uses an experimental technique (which is approved by Oscar Goldman and Dr. Rudy Wells) to inject herself with some of the brain tissue from the dead man.

Dr. Bergner gains some of the dead man's memories as a result of the injection. Dr. Bergner and Steve go to Lucerne, Switzerland. OSO Agent Mel Bristo is put in charge of escorting the ransom of $1 Billion in solid gold. While Steve and Dr. Bergner continue to look for the missing negotiator.

Thoughts

This is the third Six Million Dollar Man TV movie, all of which preceded the TV show, which lasted for five seasons.

There are a number of familiar faces in this episode. Terry Carter played the part of Mel Bristo. I know him best from The Phil Silvers Show and Battlestar Galactica (1978).

John Vernon played Julian Peck, one of the bad guys. I know him best from Animal House (1978) and Charley Varrick (1973) but he has been in a number of other movies that I have seen.

Leif Erickson played the part of William Cameron, the kidnapped negotiator. I have seen him in other films including On the Waterfront (1954) and Sorry, Wrong Number (1948)

David White played the part of Ambassador Scott whom Steve Austin rescued early in the movie. I know him best from Bewitched where he played Larry Tate but I've also seen him in The Apartment (1960) and a few episodes of The Phil Silvers Show.

This wasn't great but it was better than I feared it would be. It followed a fairly predictable pattern. There were a few other characters that I didn't mention in my summary.
