Sezim (Alina Turdurmamatova), a young woman from a small town in Kyrgyzstan, aspires to go to university in Bishkek, the capital. She runs away and goes to live with a friend in Bishkek. She takes the test but while awaiting her results she is kidnapped and returned to her home village. She is forced into an arranged marriage.
The women in her husband's village tell her that they all came there in tears but that they learned to accept. Sezim rebels more than once. Her husband tries to convince her that they will have a good life together. The movie ends with her on the run, after she finds his keys and takes off in his car.
This movie was nominated for but did not win the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 2022.
This is not a terribly upbeat movie. The ending is ambiguous at to Sezim's fate. It's a message movie but it is also very well made.
