Funeral for a Door Nail
Roger Clements is distraught after Celia, his wife is killed in a car accident. Roger hires someone to kill him but he asks for a few days to clear up some matters before the hired killer fulfills the contract. Roger goes to get his will straightened out but while he is waiting to see Alan Margolese, his lawyer, he spots Celia down on the street. He runs outside but she is gone by the time he gets to where he last saw her.
Clements contacts Blue Moon Detective Agency. He asks them to get the hired hit called off. They do but it turns out to be too late. There was a bomb planted in his car. When he goes to leave his car explodes.
Maddie and David argue about what to do next. Maddie had plans to go to Chicago for a wedding. David had agreed to be her date. They had made arrangements but then Maddie started to have second thoughts and decided that she wanted to see Margolese and return the money. They return the money, even though David is opposed to the idea and Margolese says that it is unnecessary.
David and Maddie return to the offices of Blue Moon where they continue to argue until they get a visitor, Celia Clements. She tells them about how possessive Roger was and why she faked her own death rather than divorce him. Something Celia says about Roger gives Maddie an idea. Maddie and David go back to see Alan Margolese. Maddie accuses him of pulling a fast one. He tries running from them but they manage to stop him.
Thoughts
There are several moments, maybe five or six, in this episode when Maddie and David break the fourth wall. All of these moments made me laugh. I'm not sure why they did it so much in this episode. Maybe they were getting a lot of positive feedback about it and with the season almost over they decided to cram a bunch of it into one episode.
Roger goes to a porn shop to hire a killer. Maddie and David go back to the same porn shop when they are trying to get the hit called off. The scene with Maddie and David in the porn shop was great.
This story was a little too convoluted for me. It isn't awful but it also wasn't very good. Once again they ended an episode without fully resolving the ostensible mystery. I like the humor in this episode and the way that Maddie and David interact. It is the story that leaves feeling let down.
