Fargo 5.06

The Tender Trap

Roy Tillman confronts Vivian Dugger outside the Tender Trap, a strip bar. He orders him not to sell his bank to Lorraine Lyon. Vivian is too scared of Sheriff Tillman to stand up for himself.

Lars confronts Indira as she is getting ready to leave for work. He wants her to start attending to his needs and be more like the sort of woman he wants her to be. He doesn't hear anything she has to say.

Roy finds out that Seymour, the man his men grabbed from the hospital, isn't Nadine's second husband, after he sees a commercial for Wayne Lyon's KIA dealership on TV. Roy kills Seymour, shoots him in the head, and then tells Gator they've got somewhere to go.

Officer Olmstead goes to the hospital to investigate the disappearance of Seymour. There she runs into Wayne Lyons who is being questioned by the FBI agents who ran into Dot the day before.

Roy meets with Ole Munch. He gives him money to settle things. Gator plants a device on Munch's car while he is meeting with Roy and then has words with Munch before he leaves.

Officer Olmstead meets with Agents Joaquin  and Meyer. She learns what they know about Dot's past. She doesn't tell them about seeing Dot the day before.

Lars goes to a physical therapy appointment and leaves Scotty alone in the house. Scotty plays his drums even though Lars told her not to do touch them.

Lorraine meets with Danish and learns about Vivan not returning his calls. She understands this is Roy's doing and tells Danish that they are going to have to do something about it.

Officer Olmstead takes Scotty back to her grandmother's place. She has a chat with Lorraine. She doesn't let Lorraine control the conversation. Lorraine is impressed and offers her a job. Indira says that she's going to need some time to thing about it. Lorraine gives her 24 hours.

Danish finds Vivian Dugger, at the Tender Trap. Danish hands him a phone. Lorraine is on the line. She explains that she is no longer interested in buying his bank and that the SEC has been tipped off to all the shenanigans that his bank has been up to.

The episode ends with Lorraine opening the file that Indira gave her about Dot.

Thoughts

Dot only appears in this episode at the very end, in some of the photos in the file that Lorraine is reading. Her name was originally Nadine Bump.

It wasn't clear to me in this episode if Gator knew that the man they grabbed from the hospital was the wrong guy. At first I thought he knew it was the wrong guy but in retrospect I'm starting to think that he was fooled just like Bowman and the other men that went with him to the hospital.

What did Munch mean? Is he satisfied with the money Roy gave him? Is he going to go after Dot again?

Is it realistic that Roy would see a commercial for Wayne's car dealership hundreds of miles away? Does Wayne have more than one location? Does he have any locations in North Dakota or closer to Stark County, ND than the twin cities?

I couldn't believe Lars. My guess is that he's going to suffer before the end of the series, possibly at the hands of Roy, Gator, or one of Roy's men. My guess is that Indira is not going to get back to Lorraine before the 24 hours are up or she will tell her no because the matter still hasn't been resolved.

I wondered what I was seeing when I saw the device on the underside of Munch's car. One thought I had was that it was a tracking device but it also occurred to me that it might be a bomb. I'm leaning towards tracking device at the moment.

I found the scene with Officer Olmstead and Mrs. Lyons to be very moving. I wasn't sure what to expect but the way that Indira stood up to Lorraine was powerful.

It seems like Roy is slipping. Things might get worse for him before they get better but my guess is that he will seem to have the upper hand at least one more time before the season is over.

This was an excellent episode. It is short on humor but there are lots of pieces being put in place.
