Mudd's Women
The Enterprise rescues Harcourt Fenton Mudd (aka Harry Mudd) and his three passengers (Eve, Ruth, Magda) from their ship just before it is destroyed in an asteroid field. The Enterprise is damaged in the process of the rescue effort and has to make for Rigel 12 where they can obtain replacements for the damaged Lithium Crystals.
Several male members of the crew (most notably Doctor McCoy and Mister Scott) fawn over Mudd's three passengers who are dressed in slinky, colorful dresses.
Harry radios ahead to the three miners on Rigel 12 and cuts a deal with them, without telling Captain Kirk. Mudd fails to tell the miners or the crew of the Enterprise that the women need the Venus drug to keep them looking beautiful. He has them hooked on it.
Eve rebels from Harry's control over her and runs off into the wilderness of Rigel 12. The Enterprise burns most of what little fuel they have left searching for her. Disaster is averted at the eleventh hour when Eve is found and discovers that she doesn't need the drug to make herself look beautiful.
Thoughts
This episode did not measure up. There are a few too many short cuts taken in the process of telling this story. I did not find it satisfying. If felt like there was a little too much reliance on the looks of the women to win over the audience. I was not taken in to the degree that I was willing to overlook the story's shortcomings.
