115 minutes
The world is threatened by a galactic level threat, the Devourer of Worlds, Galactus. The Silver Surfer, the herald of Galactus comes to Earth, well in advance of her employer. She warns the people of Earth. The Fantastic Four (Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, The Thing, and the Human Torch) and decide that something must be done. They follow the trail of the Silver Surfer to another star system where Galactus is in the process of devouring a planet.
The team tries to reason with the big man. He makes them an offer: give him their child, the Invisible Woman is pregnant at the time, and he will spare the Earth. That is not an option that they are willing to contemplate. They break out of Galactus' ship and start to head home but the Silver Surfer comes after them.
The Fantastic Four lose the Silver Surfer, and the Invisible Woman gives birth, on the way back to Earth. They arrive back on Earth unsure what to do. The people of Earth are disappointed that Galactus is still on his way to kill them all.
Mister Fantastic comes up with a plan to save the Earth by transporting it to another universe. People around the world pitch in but then the Silver Surfer returns and destroys most of the machinery that was built to teleport the Earth away beyond the reach of Galactus.
The team comes up with another plan, a riskier plan, that involves using Franklin (Sue and Reed's son) as bait. It works up to a point and only succeeds in the end with a little help from the Silver Surfer, who changes sides at the last minute.
Thoughts
I have not seen the lead actors in this film in much of anything else.
There was something about the way that people kept turning out to cheer the team on that didn't work for me. I was more satisfied when they returned to Earth and disappointed everyone by revealing that Galactus was still coming to eat the planet they live on.
The movie felt kind of CGI heavy, and maybe that's just how it is with superhero movies these days, but after a while I got tired of it. It isn't bad CGI it just wasn't what I wanted.
On the whole I think this movie is okay. I didn't love it. It felt like it took a long time before it really got going. I kept waiting for it to grab me but it never really did. I wasn't convinced that the Invisible Woman was permanently dead and wasn't surprised when she came back t life. On the whole I think I was underwhelmed. Maybe my expectations were higher than they should have been.
