The Officer and the Lady
starring Charles Boyer
directed by George Jenkins
Andre, a pickpocket, runs into Fingers, an old friend. Andre wants to go straight. Fingers has other ideas. Andre meets Sidonie, a young woman. Fingers steals her purse while she is talking to Andre.
Andre (Charles Boyer) wants to return the purse, which doesn't hold any money. He changes clothes and pretends to be a soldier home on leave. He then goes to Sidonie's apartment and introduces himself to Jean, Sidonie's young son who has less than a month to live and has never met his father. He says that he is Jean's father. Sidonie is grateful.
I'm not that crazy about this episode. I had trouble getting invested in the story. It would have taken a leap of faith, that I didn't feel compelled to take, in order for me to feel as though this story was worth my time.
Notes
Andrea King played the part of Sidonie. This is the only episode of this show in which she appeared. Allen Jenkins played the part of Fingers. This is the only episode of this show in which he appeared. He's been in a few movies I have seen but none in which he had big roles or that I have seen recently.
This is the only episode of this show that George Jenkins directed. He usually served as an art director or production designer for television and movies. He was the production designer for All the President's Men (1976) and won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration for that movie. He was also the production designer for Night Moves (1975).
