Crash Landing on You 1.08

Episode 8

Seo-dan tries talking Jeong-hyuk into forgetting about Se-ri, but he isn't ready to give up on Se-ri. Seo-dan similarly isn't ready to give up on Jeong-hyuk. She winds up talking to Seung-jun and levels with him that she knows who Se-ri really is. Seung-jun tells her he has a plan so that they can both get what they want.

Jeong-hyuk leaves the hospital early. He goes looking for Se-ri. He gets some help from a specialist in power lines who gives him an idea of where to look. He finds the house where Seung-jun and Se-ri are staying.

Seung-jun has come up with a plan to get her out of North Korea. He has a fake British passport for himself. He says that if they pretend to be husband and wife that he can get her a passport but it isn't long before he is suggesting that they really get married.

It is about then that Jeong-hyuk shows up. He fights with the security guards and beats them up. He gets a chance to talk to Se-ri but she tells him to leave. She explains that Seung-jun has found a way to get her back to South Korea.

Jeong-hyuk is disappointed but leaves, on foot. It is snowing. She gets worried for his safety, steals Seung-jun's car and goes after Jeong-hyuk. She finds him but the car runs out of gas. He suggests that there is an abandoned school nearby where they can stay the night.

Cheol-gang makes a deal with a general. Cho Cheol-gang will bring him Yoon Se-ri, although he doesn't know where she is at the moment, and in return the general will help to forward Cheol-gang's career. Cheol-gang returns to the hospital where he finds out that Seung-jun helped Se-ri leave the hospital. He goes to the residence where Seung-jun is taying but she isn't there.

Ko Myeong-eun, Seo-dan's mother, spends the night drinking with Jeong-hyuk's men. She hopes to learn something about Se-ri but she has so much to drink that the next morning she can't remember anything. She wrote down some of the things she was told but what she wrote down seems like it was written in code because it makes no sense to her.

Two of Se-ri's employees back in Seoul, who are convinced that she is still alive, try to get to her father. They want him to listen to the recording of the phone call she made a few episodes back.

Seo-dan goes to talk to Jeong-hyuk's father. It isn't explicitly clear what she told him but based on a preview scene of the next episode it's pretty clear that she told him about Se-ri.

Jeong-hyuk and Se-ri spend the night in the school. The next day they get a ride back to his place. He has a fever. They are unaware that Cheol-gang is looking for them. She decorates the place while Jeong-hyuk sleeps. She sells the ring that Seung-jun gave her but she doesn't make it back to his house because two men come and kidnap her. She calls Jeong-hyuk while she is being held at gun point. She tells him to forget about her. He tries to talk her into coming back, unaware of where she is or what is going on. The last thing he hears is a gunshot before she hangs up.

Thoughts

Se-ri isn't dead, of that I am sure. I don't think that the men who kidnapped her were sent by Cheol-gang because he didn't know where she was. I think it is more likely that she was kidnapped by men who are connected to the man who bought the ring from her.

Seung-jun looks to be in big trouble. I wonder how that will change him, if at all.

I watched this episode in two parts, over the course of two consecutive nights. These episodes are just a little too much for me to consume in one sitting. I'm now at the halfway point. I'm not sure when exactly I will watch the next episode but hopefully it won't be more than a couple weeks from now.

This was an okay episode. There are some little bits and pieces that didn't fully add up but for the most part it works. It does feel a bit like the story is in a bit of a holding pattern during this episode. Things happen but it feels like the story is moving forward at a slow pace considering all the time that is passing.
