An Embarrassment of Dooplers
The Cerritos is tasked with taking a Doopler emissary to Star Base 25. Dooplers have a tendency to duplicate when they get embarrassed. Everything goes fine until Captain Freeman says something negative about the emissary not realizing that he is standing nearby. He starts duplicating and pretty soon there are Doopler emissaries everywhere. The Cerritos is barred from docking at Starbase 25 until the situation with the Dooplers is resolved.
Mariner and Boimler secretly beam over to Starbase 25 in the hopes of sneaking into the legendary Captains After-Party. They get side tracked when Malvus an old acquaintance of Beckett's recognizes her. He offers to let her know where the after-party is taking place if she will just move some contraband for her. She agrees but it isn't long before base security is after her and Boimler. They eventually make it to the after-party but only Boimler is aloud in. Boimler only stays long enough to have a look around. He finds Mariner in a bar where Kirk and Spock once visited.
Tendi and Rutherford almost get crushed by an embarrassment of Doopler emmissaies while they are working on a model of the Cerritos.
Thoughts
This is the first of three episodes of Lower Decks in which Starbase 25 plays a role.
Boimler tells Mariner about his duplicate, William Boimler aboard the Titan, for the first time.
There were a number of nods to other Star Trek episodes and movies. The ones that jumped out at me were Captain Shelby (TNG 3.26 The Best of Both Worlds) and Ceti Alpha V (Star Trek 1.22 The Space Seed and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan).
This episode was a lot of fun. I laughed numerous times. I am eager to see what the second half of Season 2 holds in store.
