It Sounded Nicer in My Head
Chapman dumps Hapakuka and joins the Aryan Sisterhood. Chapman quickly starts to realize that she made a mistake. She tries to put some distance between herself and the Sisterhood but it is too late. Word has already gotten around about her and her friends.
Nichols returns. She reunites with her old acquaintances. They all seem happy to see her again. Red throws a party for her.
Whitehill gets the backstory spotlight. She was a reporter for a small local newspaper but she lost that job. She wound up living on the street. She existed like that for years. She kept hearing voices. She eventually wound up in prison after a being arrested numerous times for numerous charges
Cindy, Abdullah, and Suzanne work together to get a pic of Judy King. Their first attempt is blurry. The second attempt comes out looking like Cindy is attempting to kill Judy. They aren't so sure about going ahead with publishing the picture until news breaks about a racist puppet show in which Judy King took part years before.
Aleida gives up on studying for the GED. She feels like she is useless until a casual comment by Judy King gets her thinking about starting a nail salon when she gets out.
Nichols solves the mystery of the poop in the shower. She also continues to use heroin.
Whitehill spends most of the episode hearing voices. She can't handle reality. She can't turn off the voices. Healy tries to help her.
Caputo gets good news from Linda, the board approves his plan to educate the inmates. They insist on a few changes to his plan. Instead of arts and core curriculum type classes they want vocational classes. It will allow them to have the inmates do work and they won't have to pay them since it will officially be education.
Hapakuka comes to Chapman to try and patch things up. It turns out to be a trick. She has made a deal with Ruiz and her gang. They take Chapman, hold her down, and brand her with a swastika.
Thoughts
Soso, Poussey, Berlin, and Burset did not appear in this episode. Wanda Bell, a former CO at Litchfield, makes a brief appearance in this episode. She only had one other appearance in Season 4, in 4.01 (Work That Body for Me). Her next appearance isn't until mid-way through Season 5.
How long it will be before Caputo realizes what he has got into with Linda? How far down the neo-Nazi rabbit hole is Chapman prepared to go? How will Red react to Nicky when she finds out that she is using again? Will Taystee and her friends make any money from the picture they've got of Judy King?
This was not as dark as the previous episode. I'm curious to see where the various plot threads go from here.
