The Invaders 1.05

Genesis

A motorcycle cop pulls over a station wagon with a couple teenagers in it. One of their headlights is busted. The teenagers try to talk him out of looking in the back of the car but the police officer insists.

David Vincent arrives in Newport, Rhode Island. He goes to the hospital to see the police officer who stopped the station wagon, Sgt Hal Corman. Joan Corman, Hal's wife, and Lt. Greg Lucather, his co-worker, are there with him. Greg is instantly suspicious of Vincent. He runs him off but Vincent tracks down Joan Corman and talks her into taking him to see her husband.

Vincent tries talking to Sgt Corman but it seems to make Corman worse. Dr. Grayson, his physician, insists that they have to leave. Vincent goes back to his hotel. Another police officer stops by to get him but it is actually an alien. Vincent is almost killed but Lt Lucather shows up and kills the alien. It disintegrates in front of his eyes.

Lt Lucather is a little more open to listening to Vincent after he saw what happened to the man he shot. Vincent and Lt. Lucather investigate the alien's car. It is the station wagon from the night before. It leads them to the Newport Sea Lab and Selene Lowell, the owner of the station wagon. She shows them around, introduces them to Ken, one of her coworkers, and then goes to the police station with them. Dr. Grayson is watching them as they drive away from the Newport Sea Lab.

Dr. Grayson has a chat with Ken and uses a device to hypnotize him. Lt Lucather gets a call from Joan Corman back at the police station. She has vital information and wants to meet with him. Vincent thinks it is suspicious and tries to talk him out of going but he insists. Lucather feels guilty about what happened to her husband. David Vincent and Selene Lowell end up following him a few minutes later after they can't get any other police officers to help them.

David Vincent and Selene Lowell go to the Allyson Street Warehouse. She stays in the car. He goes to look for Lucathur. He finds Lucather but the aliens find them and try to fry their brains. The experiments that are going on at the sea lab drain the power from the surrounding area which prevents the brainwashing machinery from working. Vincent and Lucather escape, find the car and head to the sea lab.

Lowell distracts one of the employees of the sea lab while Vincent and Lucather sneak in. They get caught but the are able to cause enough problems that the machinery catches fire. The aliens are killed and the humans escape.

Thoughts

John Larch, who played Lt Greg Lucather, did a lot of work on television from the early 1950s to the late 1980s. He showed up on a lot of westerns and police shows. He made appearances shows like The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and The Fugitive. He was in a few moves that I've seen like Dirty Harry and Airplane II but he was usually a supporting character as he was in this episode.

Carol Rossen, who played Selene Lowell, worked consistently from 1960 to the mid-1980s. She appeared on five episodes of The Fugitive, each time playing a different character. She also made an appearances on The Twilight Zone.

Frank Overton, who played Dr. Grayson, made a number of appearances on television from the early 1950s to the late 1960s. He appeared on episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, and The Twilight Zone. He played the father on The Twilight Zone 1.05 (Walking Distance). He died in 1967, the same year that this episode was first broadcast, at the age of 49.

Not so hot but I still enjoyed watching this one. The special effects weren't so great.
