The Limey (1999)

starring Terence Stamp
directed by Stephen Soderbergh

Wilson (Stamp) travels to Los Angeles after getting a word from a friend of Jenny, his daughter, that she's dead. She was killed in a car crash. Wilson is out for blood. He blames her boyfriend Terry Valentine (Peter Fonda) and starts looking for him. He gets help from a couple of Jenny's friends.

Elena (Lesley Ann Warren) helps to fill in some background. Eduardo (Luis Guzman) is an ex-con, as is Wilson. He helps Wilson get some guns and drives him around. They infiltrate a party at Valentine's home. Wilson fantasizes about killing Valentine but settles for throwing one of his flunkies off a balcony. They leave the party in a hurry. Avery, Valentine's security expert tries to stop them but Wilson and Eduardo get away.

Avery hires a hit man to deal with Wilson but some DEA agents get in the way. The DEA agents clue Wilson in to the fact that Valentine is the money man in drug money laundering scheme. They also let him know where to find Valentine now.

Wilson finds Valentine and learns the truth about how and why Jenny died. A number of Valentine's bodyguards die before Wilson gets the truth.

Thoughts

There are aspects of this movie I like, the editing and the cinematography, but I find the performances to be a bit flat at times. This was still early in Stephen Soderbergh's career, after Sex, Lies, and Videotape but before Erin Brockovich, Traffic, and Ocean's Eleven.

I can't say that I was overwhelmed by this movie but I like it. I don't think that most people would agree with that sentiment.
