Invincible 1.02

Here Goes Nothing

The GSA shows up and tries to bring the Guardians of the Globe back to life, without any success. Omni-Man is in a coma and bad shape but still alive. They take him to a hospital in the Pentagon.

Mark's mother stays with her husband at the Pentagon. He responds to an alien invasion. He gets some help from another superhero team, the Teen Team. The combined might of Invincible, Atom Eve, Rex Splode, Robot, and Dupli-Kate doesn't look like it will be enough to stop the aliens but then suddenly the aliens start getting weak and quickly leave through interdimensional portals.

Mark figures out that Atom Eve is a classmate. They talk a bit during and after school. She introduces him to the other members of the Teen Team. Robot has figured out the aliens, Flexans, are limited because they age faster outside of their own dimension.

The Flexans return. It doesn't look good, once again, but Robot figures out that they are wearing arm bands that are keeping them from aging. Teen Team destroys their arm bands and the Flexans are forced to flee once again.

Cecil Stedman of the GSA gets some help from Damien Darkblood in solving the mystery of who killed the Guardians. Darkblood speaks cryptically and his findings aren't satisfactory to Stedman.

Nolan recovers and returns home. There is an alien headed towards Earth. Nolan is about to take him on but Debbie, his wife, insists that she won't allow it. Mark goes and deals with the alien. It turns out to be a misunderstanding. Allen the Alien mistook Earth for another planet.

The Flaxans attack for a third time. They don't seem to have the same vulnerabilities as they did the previous times they invaded. It doesn't look good for Teen Team but then Omni-Man shows up. He terrorizes the Flaxans and then follows them back thought the interdimensional portal to their world. He kills them all.

Omni-Man returns to Earth. Stedman visits the Graysons. He still doesn't seem to be satisfied with Nolan's explanation of what he remembers from the night the Guardians of the Globe were killed.

Thoughts

The trash bag that Mark thought he sent into orbit reappears in the opening scene. It lands in London. One of the secret service guards from the opening scene of the first episode is also in this opening scene.

The show continues to be fairly bloody and violent. Numerous people are killed by the Flexans in fairly graphic ways. Numerous copies of Dupli-Kate are also killed.

There are some other little things that will probably blossom and become more important plot point that I haven't touched on here.

I'm not sure if they changed things or I just don't remember all the details but there's a lot in this episode that I wasn't expecting. I'm tempted to buy the comic books on Comixology and flip through them but I think I would rather enjoy the show for what it is. I don't love the show but I like it enough to continue watching. I'm curious to see where it goes.
