The Phantom Mazone
Captain Harlock reviews the video of the encounter with the captured Mazone warrior. He goes looking for Daiba and finds him asleep in his bunk. He rouses Daiba and together they go on a reconnaissance mission. They are attacked by a Mazone ship but they blow it up. The wreckage bears a symbol that indicates the ship came from Uranus.
Captain Harlock has the crew head for Pirate Island No. 1, an asteroid refuge for him and his crew. He shows Daiba around the interior of the asteroid which has been made into a fun filled environment.
Captain Harlock sends a message to the Prime Minister of Earth. Accompanying the message is a letter for Mayu. Commander Kiruta takes it to Mayu and brings back her response which is then rocketed into space where Captain Harlock retrieves it. Mayu makes it sound like she is having a good time at Saint Giovanna Academy but Harlock can see that the letter is stained with tears.
Captain Harlock dreams of the Mazone. He wakes up to find Miime standing next to him. He remembers how they met on a tiny planet near Antares. The plants had taken over and killed all the people. Miime was the sole survivor.
Queen Lafresia of the Mazone strikes the Pirate Island asteroid. Captain Harlock and the rest of the crew have to blast their way out of the asteroid which blows up as they are leaving it.
Thoughts
This episode helped to fill in some backstory. There wasn't much in the way of an arc to this episode. Where is this series going? Maybe this is what I get for watching 40 plus year-old anime show.
