Better Call Saul 3.02

Witness

Chuck is nervous. He hires security to guard his home,

Mike follows the guys who changed the tracking device in his car. They lead him to another guy who takes the device he planted in the car. Mike follows that guy around to various locations. This eventually leads him to a fast good joint, Los Pollos Hermanos.

Jimmy and Kim interview Francesca, a potential receptionist. Jimmy offers her a job in the middle of the interview. Kim isn't happy with Jimmy's rush to judgement. It is their first interview. Kim agrees to give Francesca a try.

Mike calls Jimmy's office. He needs Jimmy's help. He wants Jimmy to go into Los Pollos Hermanos and keep an eye on the guy that he's been tailing. Jimmy does it. He crosses paths with the manager but thinks nothing of it. Jimmy doesn't see anything out of the ordinary. He talks to Mike afterwards and tells him what he saw.

Mike continues to keep an eye on Los Pollos Hermanos. He sees a big SUV pull up behind the restaurant. He follows it when it leaves. The tracking device is now in the SUV. Mike follows the signal out of town. He finds the gas cap with the tracking device and a cellular phone on the road. The phone rings as he approaches it.

Ernie goes to see Kim. He tells her about the tape. Kim tells Jimmy, who tries to act cool but it seething over it. He goes over to Chuck's place. He breaks in when Chuck won't let him in. He finds the tape and smashes it. Howard and the security guard are in the next room. They are ready and willing to testify to the fact that Jimmy broke in and destroyed the tape.

Thoughts

Francesca and the manager from Los Pollos Hermanos both appeared in Breaking Bad. This episode marks their first appearance in Better Call Saul.

I don't remember anything about Francesca from Breaking Bad.

There are a number of interesting developments in this episode. Jimmy and Mike cross paths in this episode, unlike the previous one. Jimmy and Kim's relationship continues to remain primarily professional. They have yet to be shown together, this season, away from the office.

Who was on the other end of the phone that Mike picked up outside of town. I suspect it was the manager from Los Pollos Hermanos, whose name was Gus Fring on Breaking Bad. He has yet to be introduced in Better Call Saul.

Chuck's plan worked. It wasn't clear what it was but clearly he expected Jimmy to break-in and he did. He doesn't need the tape anymore because now he has witnesses to the fact that Jimmy broke in to his house and destroyed some of his property. What next? What is Chuck's next move? How will Jimmy recover from this?
