Doctor Who (1963) 11.02.03

Invasion of the Dinosaurs - Part Three

The Doctor almost gets killed by the dinosaur because the gun he built isn't working the way it was intended. Captain Yates rushes in, removes the device he attached to the gun, and uses it on the dinosaur. The large reptile collapses. UNIT moves the dinosaur while it is still unconscious to a warehouse where the Doctor can observe it.

Captain Yates meets with Whitaker and Butler, once again. When he tells them what the Doctor is planning they send him to sabotage the machinery the Doctor is using to observe the dinosaur.

Sarah has done some research into Whitaker. She suspects that he knows enough about time travel to be the one behind the invasion of the dinosaurs. The Doctor, Sarah, and the Brigadier go to see if Sir Charles Grover knows anything about Professor Whitaker but Sir Charles doesn't have much in the way of information for them.

The Doctor and the Brigadier leave Sarah behind. She gets her hands on a camera, with some help from General Finch, and decides to take pictures of the dinosaur in the warehouse which is still unconscious. The dinosaur wakes up while she is photographing it. She tries to leave only to discover that the door is locked.

The Doctor returns in time to open the door. He discovers that there is something wrong with the monitoring equipment he set up and that it didn't record a thing. The Brigadier notes that the chains that the dinosaur was tied down with were cut.

Sarah goes to see Sir Charles Grove again to ask him about the possibility that someone built a small nuclear power source in London. He takes her into a file room to look through the confidential files but she quickly discovers that it is a trap. She is locked in a room. She passes out and when she recovers she is on a space ship. One of the other passengers explains that they left Earth three months ago.

Thoughts

I don't think Sarah Jane is really on space ship. I think they just want her to believe that, but I'm not sure why or if it will ever get explained.

There was just the one dinosaur in this episode. I think that's a good thing considering how poor the special effects are in this story.

I think Sarah gets about as much screen time away from the Doctor in this episode as she has in the last two episodes combined.

I don't know how they moved that dinosaur into that warehouse. It must weigh a couple dozen tons or more.

Sir Charles has finally been revealed to be a bad guy. I fear that the same will be true for General Finch.

There is one brief scene with Sergeant Benton and Sarah Jane Smith. I think that maybe the first time those two have shared a scene together without the company of the Doctor or the Brigadier.

I'm still pleasantly surprised by how much I am enjoying this one. It isn't a favorite just yet but it is still better than I feared it would be.
