The Box of Delights 1.03

In the Darkest Cellars Underneath

Kay and Mouse, both still small, listen to the conversation between Abner Brown and his henchmen. Both of the suspicious clergymen are there plus Kay's former governess. They have Maria but she seems to think that everything is okay and leaves with Brown and the others. They are off to see some stained glass windows.

Kay returns to Seekings Hall but Maria has yet to return. Kay goes into town and stops at the Rupert Arms, where Abner Brown was staying. He asks the lady at the front desk about him. She calls him the Reverend Doctor Bottledale.

Kay goes to see the Inspector. He tells him about Abner Brown but it turns out that the Inspector is an old friend of the Reverend Doctor Bottledale. He advises Kay to go home and have a posset before going to bed.

Kay goes to the bishop's party with the other kids. He hopes that Maria will be there but she is not. There is a Punch and Judy show but Kay doesn't get a chance to speak with the Punch and Judy man.

Kay gets Ellen, the housekeeper to make him a posset. He drinks it before bed. He has strange dreams that night. Herne the Hunter is in one of them. Abner Brown is in another dream.

The next day Kay and the other kids, minus Maria who still has yet to return, go out. They are playing with Kay's toy sailboat when they see the suspicious looking clergymen. Kay uses the Box to make them small. They jump on the toy sailboat and head downstream with it. The episode ends just as the boat is about to go over some rapids.

Thoughts

There were a number of moments in this episode that came back to me just as they began.

I can see that things are starting to come together. I don't remember exactly how things are resolved in the end but I'm sure that as with this episode much of it will feel familiar.

I am still enjoying the watching this again even though the special effects aren't that great and this is essentially a children's story.
