Broadway Danny Rose (1984)

Broadway Danny Rose (1984)

starring Woody Allen, Mia Farrow, Nick Apollo Forte
directed by Woody Allen

84 minutes

Agent Danny Rose (Woody Allen) tries to keep lounge act Lou Canova (Nick Apolli Forte), one of his clients, happy by picking up Tina Vitale (Mia Farrow) Lou's mistress and bringing her to a show he will be doing at the Waldorf. Lou is married so Danny will have to pretend to be her boyfriend.

Everything starts to go wrong when Danny meets Johnny, Tina's ex-boyfriend, and Johnny's brothers who are both hitmen and quickly come to the conclusion that Danny is the one who stole Tina away from their brother. Johnny's brothers pursue Danny and Tina as they try to get to the show at the Waldorf.

Everything works out in the end but more so for Lou than for Danny and Tina.

Thoughts

I first saw Broadway Danny Rose over 25 years ago. I don't recall exactly when it was but I'm pretty sure that I didn't see it in the theater.

Woody Allen shot this film in black-and-white. I'm not sure if that adds anything to the movie. It doesn't feel like it takes place prior to the 1980s.

This isn't a great movie. I enjoyed it well enough but it's fairly light, despite the potential threat to Danny's life. I didn't laugh out loud but I chuckled a few times.
