Door to the Demon World
Ranze dreams of Makabe. Her mother walks in and sees her laughing as she sleeps and gets curious. Shiira breaks into Ranze’s dream and sees that it is a human boy thta she is dreaming about and flips out. Ranze flips out when she wakes up and realizes what her mother did. She kicks her mother out of her room and then sneaks down to the basement.
Ranze opens the door to the Demon World. Her plan is to ask the ruler of the Demon World to make her a normal girl so that she can be with Makabe. Something goes wrong after she passes into the Demon World and Ranze winds up back in the human world.
Shiira talks to Mori, her husband and Ranze’s father, and insists that he needs to spy on their daughter. He does just that but all he discovers that Ranze is not in school like they thought she was.
Ranze materializes at school the next day but still in her nightgown. She freaks out when she sees Makabe and Yoko, her rival for his affections, coming her way. Ranze bites into a baseball and is transformed into a baseball.
Ranze is elated when Makabe picks her up but he doesn’t hold on to her for long as she is used in a baseball game. She winds up getting hit out of the schoolyard, out on to the street. She eventually returns to her human form after she lets licked by a dog which causes her to sneeze.
Thoughts
This episode had some interesting twists. Ranze, in the second half of the episode, is so happy to be near Makabe that when she is pitched in his direction and he hits her with a bat she is overjoyed that he touched her. This would not fly today.
I’m starting to get the impression that Ranze is a vampire, like her father, but I’m not sure if that is the case. It might explain how her mother knew that sneezing would change her back to her human form.
I’m not fully won over by this show but I think I’m going to watch at least a couple more episodes.
