The Caves of Androzani - Part Two

Chellak discovers that the Doctor and Peri he had executed were actually androids. The real Doctor and Peri find that they are now prisoners of Sharaz Jek. He explains that they will live with him indefinitely. Neither the Doctor nor Peri is excited by this proposition. Jek is very taken by Peri's beauty.

Jek is at war with Morgus, Chellak's boss. They were once partners but Morgus tried to kill him. Jek survived but is horribly scarred as a result of the attempt on his life. He wants Morgus' dead and until he gets what he wants he plans to keep the miners from reaching the reserves of Spectrox.

Salateen, the real Salateen, brings the Doctor and Peri some gruel. He tells them a bit more about Sharaz Jek. He explains that Jek will probably kill him now that he has Peri and the Doctor but his mood changes when the Doctor complains about cramps. Salateen asks them a couple questions and then explains that they must have been infected when they stepped in Spectrox nest.

The Doctor and Peri probably only have a couple days to live. Their only hope is to create a serum but to create an effective one they will need to find a bat that lives in the caves. The problem with that is that most of the bats have either been killed or driven deep underground by the miners.

The Doctor, Peri, and Salateen escape from Jek's hideout. They are spotted by an android who shoots at them. The Doctor is knocked out briefly. Salateen takes off with Peri. The Doctor wakes up and starts to look for his missing companion but he is forced to put the search on hold and hide when the mercenaries return.

A giant creature emerges from the shadows and attacks the mercenaries as the episode ends.

Thoughts

My guess was right as to how the Doctor and Peri escaped possible death. Its funny how clueless Chellak is as to the fact that he has an android, Salateen, working for him.

This is better than I feared it would be. The guest stars are all very good. It reminds me a bit of Revelation of the Daleks in that the Doctor and Peri are only part of the story and there are other things going on that they intersect with but that have their own arcs.
