Sudan, Remember Us (2024)

Sudan, Remember Us (2024)

directed by Hind Meddeb

in Arabic with English subtitles

Most of the footage in this film is of young people in Khartoum who feel free to express themselves in public for the first time in years, probably within their lifetimes. This footage is from the period just following the overthrow of Omar Al-Bashir who ruled the country from 1989 to 2019. The happy moment unfortunately doesn't last long as military forces soon come in and start cracking down on civilians who have taken to the streets to peacefully express themselves.

This documentary does not provide a comprehensive look at recent events in Sudan in recent years. It isn't even focused on the bigger picture in Sudan. There is no one central character or narrative. This documentary feels like an incomplete collection of moments. It seems like it might have been cut short by the crack down.
