Better Call Saul 6.01

Wine and Roses

Saul’s home, before he skipped town at the end of Breaking Bad, gets cleaned out by professionals who pack everything up and load it into trucks.

Nacho, on the run, calls Mike who gives him instructions. Lalo shows up at the home of someone he knows where he is offered breakfast and meets up with someone who looks just like him. Jimmy and Kim wake up and get ready for work.

Mike meets with Gus. Mike wants Gus to give the order to go get Nacho. Gus wants to know how it is that Lalo and the strike team sent to kill him could all be dead.

Jimmy runs into the prosecutor in the case against Lalo (aka de Guzman). She wants to see de Guzman right away. Jimmy tells her no and accidentally refers to De Guzman as Lalo.

Jimmy and Kim meet at a restaurant later that night. She wants to talk about how they can “get” Howard.

Nacho makes his way to a motel where (presumably) Mike told him to go. He is given a room and told to wait in the room for further instructions. There is a gun, ammunition, cash, and clothes in the room. He calls and gets the instructions from someone who isn’t Mike. He tries calling Mike but Mike doesn’t pickup.

Jimmy and Kim go to the country club where Cliff Davis and Howard Hamlin are playing golf. Kim stays in the car and keeps a look out while Jimmy goes inside. Things don’t go exactly as planned. Jimmy runs into Kevin Wachtel. Jimmy almost gets kicked out but he improvises and finds a way to plant some fake drugs in Howard’s locker.

Lalo is getting ready to sneak across the border back into the United States but after calling uncle Hector he changes his mind.

Thoughts

This is a good opening to the final season of the show. There were a few things that threw me for a loop that I didn't exactly remember when they first showed up.

I think Nacho is dead meat. I think he's getting set up to be executed. He might escape that attempt on his life but how much longer can he survive? Lalo is convinced that Gus was behind the attempt to kill him. He isn't wrong but Hector wants proof. Lalo thinks he knows where he can get some proof. It isn't clear what he is thinking. I'm wondering if what he's thinking has something to do with Mike or Nacho.

What will be Mike's next move? What will Gus do next? They both seem to be on hold at the moment. The cousins believe that Lalo is dead. What will their next move be? Where will they show up next?

There are 12 episodes left in the show. I plan to savor them.
