Fast Enough
Barry has a decision to make. Does he go back in time and save his mother or accept the fact that she is dead and move on? After asking several people what they think he should do he ultimately decides to go back and save her. In order to do so he has to travel faster than he ever has before. Dr. Wells/Thawne helps him to do this by giving him the know how. In return he is going to let Wells/Thawne, the man who killed his mother, leave. That made no sense at all to me. I might have been able to accept it if Barry had said no to helping Wells/Thawne but then he escaped.
Eddie is still bummed over what Wells/Thawne todl him but he gets over feeling sorry for himself after he has a chat with Dr. Stein. He goes back to Iris and apologizes for acting stupid. She accepts and they are an item once again. This happens after Barry has a chat with Iris about the headline that shows her last name changed to West-Allen.
After much pondering, which for the most part felt like a waste of time, Barry agrees to give it a try. He runs super-fast around the particle accelerator. He collides with a molecule that Caitlin inserts into the accelerator. That was part of the plan. He starts to see scenes from the past and jumps into the one where his mother is about to die. He gets there in time to prevent her death but then freezes up and doesn't step in to save her. Instead he waits until the Flash and Reverse Flash are gone. Just before his mother dies he goes to her and reveals who he is and reassures her.
I gotta be honest, there were a lot of moments in this episode that left me scratching my head. This was definitely one of them. I can understand why he froze up and did nothing. What I can't fathom is why Thawne/Wells would give him the knowledge to go back and save his mother. If he saves her wouldn't that have had an impact on Thawne/Wells as well? It made no sense to me for these two men to help one another. They both have reasons for wanting to kill the other.
While Barry is in the past, Thawne/Wells is set free and gets into the time sphere that Cisco and Ronnie built for him. Why are they helping this murderer? This makes no sense! A helmet comes flying out of the time stream which looks just like the one worn by Jay Garrick, the Flash of Earth-2. Thawne/Wells is about to leave when Flash comes leaping out of the time stream and breaks the time sphere. Reverse Flash gets angry and the two start fighting.
It looks like Reverse Flash is going to win when Eddie shows up and shoots himself in the chest. It occurred to me that something like this might happen but I thought that if it did it wouldn't be that blatant. Instead I thought it would be Eddie throwing himself in harm's way to save the Flash and getting killed in the process. When Eddie dies Wells/Thawne, his descendant, vanishes.
That's when the singularity (aka black hole) reappears. It first appeared when Barry collided with the particle thus opening the wormhole which allowed him to travel back in time. It looks like the singularity is going to consume Central City and possibly the Earth. Flash takes off to try and do something to stop it. That's when the episode and the season end.
I'm not a big fan of that sort of cliffhanger. It gives the audience little to nothing about what happens next. I know that these episodes first aired about three years ago and that I could easily look up what happens next or watch the first episode of the next season. I will get around to that eventually but not now and probably not for a few months.
This is episode 1.23 or 123. The first meeting of Barry Allen and Jay Garrick was in Flash 123. As mentioned above, a helmet that looks just like the one Jay Garrick wears shows up in this episode but Jay Garrick does not.
In this episode Barry has just 1 minutes and 53 seconds (1:53) to go back in time and save his mother. I looked up Flash 153 and found that it was an issue that the Reverse Flash (aka Eobard Thawne) appeared in. It was his third appearance overall. He had previously appeared in 139 and 147. I have not read these issues but I listened to the three episodes of Tom vs. the Flash in which he covered those issues; links below. The only significance I can find to issue 153 is that it is the issue in which the real name of the Reverse-Flash, aka Professor Zoom, is finally revealed to be Eobard Thawne.
Flash 139: Menace of the Reverse-Flash!
Flash 147: Our Enemy, The Flash!
Flash 153: The Mightiest Punch!
On the whole this was a decent episode. It wasn't my favorite. There were a few too many unanswered questions and too much confused reasoning. I didn't even get into Cisco's conversation with Wells/Thawne or Caitlin and Ronnie's marriage (Dr. Stein is a rabbi?) which introduced things that I don't want to consider or contemplate at this point. Honestly I think it might have been better if this was the first episode of the 2nd season or the next episode was the last one of this season.

Flash 1.22
Rogue Air
This was a very villains heavy episode. I remembered some of them but a few of them I only remembered in part or not at all. I used this blog and IMDB to help jog my memory on some key facts about the villains.
Captain Cold aka Lenard Snart first appeared in 1.04 (Going Rogue), He also appeared in 1.10 (Revenge of the Rogues) and 1.16 (Rogue Time).
Golden Glider aka Lisa Snart, is Lenard's sister. Her only other appearance was in 1.16 (Rogue Time). She got her nick name in this episode but she got her gold gun, which Cisco make for her under duress, after the villains captured him in 1.16.
The Mist aka Kyle Nimbus first and only other appearance was in 1.03 (Things You Can't Outrun). He is similar to the character of the same name from the comic books and like Barry got his powers from the explosion of the STAR Labs particle accelerator.
Rainbow Raider aka Roy G. Bivolo first and only other appearance was in 1.08 (Flash vs. Arrow). In that episode he used his powers to manipulate people and turn the Flash against his friends.
Peek-a-Boo aka Shawna Baez first appeared in 1.12 (Crazy for You). She has the ability to teleport with some limitations on that power.
Weather Wizard aka Mark Mardon first appeared in 1.15 (Out of Time) and also in 1.16 (Rogue Time). He almost destroyed Central City in his first appearance. Barry ran so fast he traveled back in time and then used the knowledge he had to capture Weather Wizard before things escalated to the point they did.
Deathbolt aka Jake Simmons first appeared on an episode of Arrow, 3.19 (Broken Arrow). Cisco appeared on that episode which presumably helps to explain what he is doing in Central City. This is his first appearance on Flash. There was a character of the same name who appeared in All-Star Squadron but I don't think this is supposed to be the same character, just someone with similar powers and personality.
---
Flash, Joe, and friends figure out that Dr. Wells/Eobard Thawne has been at STAR Labs the whole time. The key, which Thawne talked about at the end of the last episode is active. It is restarting the particle accelerator. Once the particle accelerator is online it will kill the five villains that are currently in containment units down there: the Mist, Rainbow Raider, Peek-a-Boo, Weather Wizard, and Deathbolt. Cisco can't figure out how to prevent the particle accelerator from coming back online but he deduces that they have 36 hours until it is back online.
Barry and Joe scramble for a solution for what to do with the rogues. They can't just leave them there and let them die. Iron Heights Prison is not equipped to handle meta-humans. They decide to move them to the island where Oliver Queen was stranded for 5 years. Apparently there are facilities there to hold the rogues. Joe tries to get support from the police department. The district attorney hears him out and then tells him that he is on his own.
Joe and Iris explore the area beneath the particle accelerator and discover the secret chamber where Eobard was keeping his ancestor, Eddie. He is still very weak but they get him out of there. Iris discovers the wedding ring that Eddie was going to give to her but she does not mention it to him right away. When she does show him the ring Eddie tells her about what what Eobard showed him, that she is going to marry Barry. Iris refuses to accept what Eobard told Eddie but Eddie insists and ends their relationship.
Flash turns to Captain Cold for help transporting the rogues. Captain Cold agrees but only after Flash agrees to destroy all traces of him and criminal evidence against him. Cold gets his sister, Golden Glider, to help him. Cisco rigs up a special truck to transport the criminals. He builds a dampening field into the truck, using some technology that Eobard Thawne left behind in his wheelchair. It works for a while but just before the airplane arrives to take the rogues away it fails.
The rogues break out of the truck and a battle breaks out between Flash and the rogues. Captain Cold and Golden Glider aren't much help to either side in the fight. The rogues almost kill Flash before Captain Cold steps in and zaps Dealthbolt. He then tells the rest of them to beat it. Flash is incapacitated temporarily but Cold doesn't kill him. He figures that like the rogues that he let escape, Barry now owes him one.
The particle accelerator finishes booting up and comes back online. Reverse Flash returns for a battle with the Flash, who has brought a couple friends to help him out: Arrow and Firestorm. It looks like an open and shut case, Reverse Flash is just too fast for them, until Arrow shoots him with an arrow that injects nanites into his body that disable his super speed. The arrow was designed by Ray Palmer. He ends up having to use a few of those arrows before the trio of heroes is finally able to take down the Reverse Flash.
---
Overall this was an excellent episode and a lot of fun. Some things happened a little too quickly, like the return of the rogues who were in the containment units. Before I could remember who all of them were and what their powers were they were gone.
It looks like Wells/Thawne has been beaten so what comes next? It was a little surprising that the penultimate episode of the season didn't end on a cliffhanger.

Flash 1.21
Grodd Lives
Iris confronts Barry. She tries to do it at police HQ but he runs off once again. Instead she shows up at STAR Labs when Barry is still in uniform, after he has removed his cowl. She is hurt. She is angry that everyone else seems to know Barry's secret, except her. Maybe there was just a little too much dwelling on this part of the episode. It is perfectly understandable that she would be angry, very angry but some of these scenes fell a bit flat. It felt as though they were filling time.
Some new masked villain attempts to rob the Central City Gold Reserve. The Flash tries to stop him but is incapacitated by a mental blast. It seems to affect the would be robber as well. Flash runs off before he can get hit with another blast. The police set a trap for the would be robber and with some help from the Flash they catch him. When they pull off the mask he is wearing the face beneath is that of General Eiling.
They whisk Eiling back to STAR Labs and lock him in one of the cells. He is talking but he doesn't sound like himself. He hasn't been seen on the show since 1.14 (Fallout) which ended with the Reverse Flash delivering him to Grodd. It looks like Grodd is the one behind Eiling. He is mentally controlling the General. He talks through the General to Barry and reveals his identity.
Joe West, knowing that Grodd is super-dangerous and has mental powers leads Barry and Cisco on a trip into the sewers to try and find Grodd's hideout. This was one twist that didn't make sense to me. This whole part of the story was kind of dumb. Joe gets captured by Grodd. He gets smacked around and loses his usual cool demeanor very quickly when he come face to face with Grodd.
Barry and Cisco rush back to STAR Labs. At first they act like they don't know what to do. Then they do the obvious and create a headpiece for Barry to wear which will block the mental signals Grodd is sending from reaching Barry's brain. Barry goes into the sewers to retrieve Joe. Before he can get his adoptive father out of there he is forced to fight Grodd. Barry tries attacking him but even using the super-punch which was last seen in 1.06 (The Flash is Born) he is unable to stop him. Grodd gets the upper hand and almost kills Barry by making him step in front of a moving train. It is only Iris' voice and his memories of her, including the kiss that they shared in 1.15 (Out of Time), that enable him to break through Grodd's mental assault and avoid getting killed by the train.
There isn't another showdown with Grodd in this episode. Flash grabs Joe and whisks him out of there after Grodd steps into a moving train, which was really strange. Maybe he isn't the super-intelligent being that he is on JLU but still that seemed a little too convenient. Grodd isn't dead and doesn't seem to be injured. Grodd doesn't add anything to this show as far as I am concerned. I hope that if the character keeps showing up on the show that he will evolve and become more intelligent. I don't want to see him if all he is going to be is a gorilla with mental abilities.
Barry releases General Eiling from his holding cell after confirming that Grodd no longer has control over him. Eiling knows that Barry is the Flash but he's got other concerns, namely Grodd. He wants revenge. I checked and this is the final episode for Eiling so I guess he isn't going to get his revenge.
Eddie Thawne is still the prisoner of his descendant, Eobard Thawne, the man who has been pretending to be Harrison Wells. Eobard visits him a few times but isn't receptive to Eddie's suggestion that he should let him go. At the end of the episode in the final scene Eobard seems very satisfied. It seems that he has the "key" as he puts it. The key to what isn't clear. Can this key be what he needs to return to the future?
Not my favorite episode. I think I already outlined a number of things that I didn't like about it. I missed having Eobard interact with Barry. I hope that the last two episodes of this season are better than this one. I don't think that is a very high bar to clear.

Flash 1.20
The Trap
The episode opens where the last one left off, in Dr. Wells/Eobard Thawne's hidden room. Barry, Caitlin, and Cisco study the newspaper headline about the Flash disappearing during the crisis. They notice that it is dated 10 years into the future and that the author of the piece is Iris West-Allen. There are some subtle differences in the Flash's costume which Cisco notices. They talk to Gideon and learn that it believes that Barry is the police commissioner of Central City. Gideon also says that Barry created it. They get out there, thanks to Barry's speed, just before Dr. Wells arrives on the scene.
Barry confesses to the gang (Joe, Cisco, Caitlin, Eddie) back at Joe's house that he has time traveled before. He tells them about the tidal wave that he prevented by traveling back in time (see Flash 1.15 - Out of Time). He doesn't mention how he changed into the Flash in front of Iris. He theorizes that Cisco's dream of getting killed by Dr. Wells was more than just a bad dream, Barry suggests that it actually happened. He wants to get Wells to confess to killing his mother and sees Cisco as the key to getting that confession.
Eddie want to propose to Iris. He tries talking to Joe about it but Joe shoots the idea down. Eddie insists that he was only asking for Joe's blessing as a courtesy and that he doesn't need Joe's permission. I have a hard time hating Eddie. I'm not sure why. Maybe it is because he isn't destined to end up with Iris. Maybe it is because Barry doesn't hate him. Maybe it is because he is a nice guy.
Caitlin and Cisco invent (with a little help from Dr. Wells) a pair of lucid dreaming glasses. They use the glasses to get Cisco to go into his dream, relive them, and remember everything that happened before. They use this information to set the trap for Dr. Wells. They recreate the scene as best they can. Cisco pulls up the hologram of the Reverse Flash just like he did that night. One big difference is that this time around Joe and Barry are hidden behind some equipment in the bunker waiting to grab Wells once he confesses.
Cisco isn't the only one who dreams in this episode. Early in the episode Joe daydreams back to when Barry was still in a come in the hospital, after the reactor blew up but before he awoke and discovered his new powers. Joe remembers how Dr. Wells came to him and insisted that he was the only one who could help Barry.
Before the trap is set for Dr. Wells, Iris meets Barry at his office in CCPD headquarters. I thought she was going to tell him she was having dreams about him being the Flash. Instead she gives tells him about a theory she has that the reactor blowing up was responsible for giving a lot of people superpowers, including the Flash. Barry is flustered and doesn't know what to say. She gives him a folder with her evidence. He promises to read through it and leaves very abruptly. After he has left Iris daydreams back to when Barry was still in a coma. She sits next to him in bed and tells him that she needs him. She reaches out for his hand and gets an electrical shock.
The trap doesn't work out as planned. In large part because it is not the final episode of the season but also because Dr. Wells/Eobard Thawne is one step ahead of them. It looks like Dr. Wells comes down to the bunker to confront Cisco. It looks like he is about to kill Cisco again when Joe and Barry leap out. Joe fires three shots at Dr. Wells. Barry stops two of the bullets but is unable to stop the third bullet before it reaches Dr. Wells and kills him. As they are standing over the body it changes and reverts to its true form, Hannibal Bates, the shapeshifter (from Flash 1.19 - Who Is Dr. Wells?).
Dr. Wells/Eobard Thawne contacts them. He doesn't reveal his true identity but he tells them that even though he has been using them, he has grown attached to them but he won't let that get in the way of his mission. Barry goes looking for Iris, who is with Eddie, who is about to propose to Iris. The Reverse Flash gets there before the Flash does and just before Eddie is about to propose. He almost kills Iris but Flash shows up. The Reverse Flash runs off with Eddie. Flash takes Iris' hand and promises to rescue Eddie. As he leaves Iris gets a mild shock as their hands separate, just like she did many months ago in the hospital. She whispers Barry's name questioningly but he is already gone.
The final scene takes place in Eobard Thawne's secret lair. He takes off the mask and tells Eddie who he really is. Eobard has a flashback to the hospital when Barry was still in a coma. He talks to unconscious Barry about how he has watched him grow up and how determined he is to kill him, but not until the time is right.
This was such a good episode. I love so many things about it. There are so many secrets in this show, things that this character or that character is withholding. Some of them are clear, some not so much. Some are revealed in this episode. This is not a perfect episode. There are a few leaps that happen a bit quickly. As always it seems like it takes little to no effort to develop new technology.

Flash 1.19
Who Is Harrison Wells?
Barry, Joe, Eddie, Caitlin, and Cisco meet to discuss what to do next about their investigation into Dr. Wells. They are all on board except for Caitlin. She has doubts. The meeting ends abruptly when she storms off.
After the meeting Cisco and Detective West head to Starling City to try and dig up something on Dr. Wells life before he moved to Central City. They get some help from Lance of the SCPD. I can't figure out what his rank or title is at this point. I know that in the first season of Arrow he was a Detective. He later got busted down in rank. In this episode someone addresses him as Captain. That someone is Laurel Lance, his daughter.
In what has to be the goofiest and least elegant scene in this episode and possibly the whole season, Laurel admits to Cisco that she is the Black Canary. She asks him for some help with fixing or augmenting one of her weapons. He does so but there are no demonstrations on this episode. That probably happened on an episode of Arrow. I was a bit concerned when I saw that there were two characters from Arrow going to show up in this episode. On the whole the Starling City characters didn't appear as much as they have in a few other episodes which was definitely a good thing.
Barry and Eddie have to deal with a metahuman who is able to assume any form. At first they aren't sure what they are dealing with until Barry sees the guy transform into a teenage girl. Apparently he retains the ability to assume the form of anyone he has touched. He loses Flash very quickly during their first encounter. The second time around the metahuman, whose real name is Hannibal Bates, assumes the identity of Eddie and shoots two cops. Eddie is arrested for shooting the two cops. Eventually he gets cleared thanks to some sleuthing by Iris and the Flash.
Still disguised as Eddie, Bates goes to Joe's house. Barry is the only one there. He thinks it is Eddie and gets knocked out by Bates. Caitlin walks in next but she is also fooled by Bates who now looks like Barry. Bates and Snow head back to STAR Labs. Bates is acting strange but Caitlin fails to pickup on what is wrong, even after "Barry" kisses her. What's really interesting about that is that she doesn't tell anyone about him kissing her. She gets really jumpy when the real Barry touches her on the shoulder later in the episode.
In Starling City Lance takes West and Ramon to the site where Dr. Wells and his wife were in a car crash, that was depicted in 1.17 (Tricksters). Using some of his high tech gadgets Cisco finds what turns out to be the remains of the real Dr. Wells. This proves to be a crucial piece of information in swaying Caitlin to believe that the Dr. Wells they know isn't who he says he is.
Bates, still disguised as Barry, is about to shoot someone when Dr. Wells takes him down from behind with a TASER. Iris is visiting STAR Labs and insists on taking the bad guy to the police. What a stupid idea, colossally stupid. The inevitable happens, Bates escapes. Caitlin goes back to Joe's house. There she finds Barry who is still unconscious and tied up. She frees him and they head back to STAR Labs.
Soon thereafter Dr. Wells is able to detect Barry's cellphone, which Bates has, at the airport. Barry rushes there and gets into a fight with Bates. Bates changes form several times during the fight. At one point he is Caitlin, then Eddie, and then finally Iris. I thought this was very cool. Barry is able to defeat Bates at last thank to a serum developed by Caitlin. Bates gets locked up at STAR Labs like all the other villains. He admits that he can't remember who he really is.
Dr. Wells goes to see Detective West after he and Cisco return to Central City. He seems suspicious of Joe's reason for going to Starling City. He suggests that they should have another drink together some day. Joe is wary.
Finally Cisco, Barry, and Caitlin go looking for anything strange in STAR Labs. They find and enter Dr. Wells secret room where he stores the Reverse Flash costume and the digital newspaper from 2024 which has the headline about the Flash disappearing during the Crisis. They are all stunned.
I am always chagrined by how fast people leap to conclusions on TV shows, on very little or no evidence. How in the world were they able to confirm that the body was not the real Dr. Wells that quickly? Why did they assume that the shapeshifter has to be a man? In the end it seems like it is but still.
Another exciting episode. There are lots of little things that were cool. I liked how the two stories (supervillain of the week and the mystery of Harrison Wells) were layered together and interacted with one another.

Flash 1.18
All Star Team Up
Felicity Smoak and Ray Palmer come to Central City for a visit. Ray needs some help with his suit and hopes to get it from the scientists at STAR Labs. It is her third and his first appearance on Flash. While they are in Central City a new villain strikes, the Bug Eyed Bandit. She doesn't have superpowers but controls a swarm of robotic bees She is out for revenge. Her first two victims are former coworkers. After that she goes after Christina McGee, the head of Mercury Labs. It is her second appearance on Flash. I didn't notice in her first appearance but this is a character from the 1991 Flash TV show. She was a regular member of the cast of that show. She is played by Amanda Pays, the same actress as on the 1991 show.
There is a major subplot involving Eddie and Iris. She can tell that he is hiding something from her. She just doesn't know what it is and that is driving her crazy. Things go from bad to worse over the course of the episode. Barry tries to intercede. For a moment it looks like his one-on-one with Iris might do the trick. In the next-to-last scene in the episode it becomes clear that it doesn't do the trick. She still wants to know what he is hiding from her.
Cisco starts having daydreams in which he sees that Dr. Wells is the Reverse Flash. The dreams are right out of what happened before Barry went back in time a few episodes back. He sees Dr. Wells revealing his true identity and then killing him. It leaves him shaken. I'm starting to wonder if Iris is having similar dreams in which she sees Barry revealing himself to be the Flash before he goes off to save Central City. I wonder if that is why she is pushing Eddie so hard to cough up that which he is hiding from her.
Throughout the episode Barry agonizes over whether he and Joe should tell Cisco and Caitlin about Dr. Wells being the reverse Flash. They don't know everything but they know quite a bit. Barry asks Felicity for advice. He is worried that Caitlin and Cisco are in league with Dr. Wells. Felicity thinks that they are good people and that Barry should trust them. In the end that is exactly what he and Joe do. Caitlin thinks they are crazy until Cisco opens up and talks about the dreams he has been having.
Overall this wasn't a great episode. I think there was a little too much focus on Felicity and Ray. They really didn't need to be in this episode. I don't feel as though they added anything substantial to it. There wasn't as much focus on the villain as there quite often is, I assume that is because Felicity and Ray gobbled up that screen time. Thumbs down for the inclusion of the two visitors from Starling city. Thumbs up for the Eddie and Iris thread and the thread that saw Barry and Cisco open up and share what they know about Dr Wells.

Flash 1.17
Tricksters
Who is Dr. Wells? That is the question that is at the center of this episode. One could even say that the title is in part a reference to him. More clearly the title is a reference to The two villains known as the Trickster. The original Trickster (Mark Hamill) is in Iron Heights serving time for his crimes. He has been there for 20 years, give or take. The new Trickster is threatening the city with miniature bombs that pack a real punch.
Joe and Barry go to visit the old Trickster in prison. They hope that he can help catch the new trickster. They interrogate him in a scene that, at least for a moment looks like it was lifted from Silence of the Lambs. Old Trickster is enraged. He send them to his old hideout. They almost get killed by a bomb, I loved Mark Hamill in this role. He plays it a little crazy and at moments seems like he is about to slip into the Joker but he never quite does.
In the opening scene there is a flashback to the night that Barry's mother was killed. The Flash and the Reverse Flash fight in the Allen household. The Reverse Flash escapes but takes quite a beating. He discovers that he has lost the ability to move fast and time travel. He takes off his mask. The face underneath is not that of Dr. Harrison Wells.
I love this twist in the tale because just when it seemed like something had been resolved, who killed Barry's mother, something happens to cast doubt on that theory. Joe and Barry don't have this bit of information yet. They are proceeding under the theory that Dr. Wells is the killer. They have a hard time talking to Dr. Wells, especially Barry. Dr. Wells asks Joe what's bothering Barry? What's wrong is that Barry is having trouble at that moment seeing Dr. Wells as anything other than a killer.
The new Trickster helps the old one to escape from prison. They take a hostage, Henry Allen, Barry's father. They poison the champagne at a fundraiser for the Mayor's re-election. Iris is at the fundraiser. She warns her father, who is at STAR Labs at the time. Barry speeds to the fundraiser but the Tricksters are one step ahead of him. They strap a bomb to his wrist that will detonate if he moves slower than 600 mph. Barry doesn't know what to do so he calls STAR Labs for help.
Four years ago, Dr. Wells and his wife were in a car accident. The man who caused the accident was Eobard Thawne, the Reverse Flash. Dr. Wells wife is killed and Thawne uses some sort of future tech to kill Dr. Wells and make himself look just like him. So, I guess the answer is both yes and no, Dr. Wells did and did not kill Barry's mother.
Back in the present Dr. Wells advises Flash on how to get rid of the bomb on his wrist. He tells him to phase through a wall, something that Barry doesn't believe is possible. Dr. Wells talks him through it and invokes the name of the Speed Force. I believe this is the first time the Speed Force has been mentioned on the TV show. Barry is torn but follows Dr. Wells advice and it works. Barry goes through the wall but the bomb comes off his wrist. Now Barry isn't sure what to believe. He's convinced that Dr. Wells killed his mother but by the same token he can't deny the good things that Dr. Wells has done. Barry zips back to the party, inoculates everyone from the poison in the Champagne and captures the two Tricksters, This seems like it could be the end of the episode but there is still a little more.
Earlier in the episode Iris separately asked Eddie and the Flash to look into the disappearance of Morgan Bridge. She is convinced that something happened to him. Of course she is correct, she just doesn't know what that something might be. Eddie shrugs it off but the Flash agrees to help her. Towards the end of the episode, after the Tricksters have been captured, Flash and Joe have a meeting with Eddie. Barry takes off his mask and tells Eddie that he has to convince Iris that her coworker is okay. I thought it was kind of sudden for Barry to unmask like that but I guess now that Eddie knows the show could get more interesting.
It was nice to get a one-and-done story. The past few have been two-parters. There was a lot here that got me excited and eager to see how the rest of the season plays out. As usual I thought somethings happened a little too quickly but that didn't diminish my excitement. I love how things sometimes get discovered when two characters (Barry and Joe in this case) just talk something out. Of course it turns out that they only know part of the story.

Flash 1.16
Rogue Time
There were some nice twists and turns in this episode. I was partially right about where it would go but I didn't expect it to diverge quite so much from where things were headed at the end of the previous episode.
Barry traveled back in time, at the end of the previous episode. When Dr. Wells finds out he tells Barry not to try and change things. Barry does not follow Dr. Wells advice. Before Weather Wizard can harm anyone he captures him and throws him in a containment unit at STAR Labs. Barry then tries to woo Iris. He isn't successful. Iris is disturbed by the way he is acting. She tells Eddie who punches Barry the next time he sees him.
Captain Cold and Heat Wave return. With some help from Lisa, Snart's sister, they capture Cisco and his brother. Cisco is forced to help build new guns for the villains, including a gold gun for Lisa. Captain Cold then threatens to torture and kill Cisco's brother unless he reveals the secret identity of the Flash. After being released by the rogues Cisco returns to STAR Labs and tells them what happened. Cisco is ready to pack it up and move on until Dr. Wells talks him out of it and convinces him how important he is to them.
At this point the episode got a little weak. It kind of fizzled for the last ten minutes without any fireworks. Flash stops the Rogues from stealing from the mob. He has a face to face chat with Captain Cold without his mask on. He seems to convince Cold to stop killing and then leaves him be. Cold did threaten that if Flash didn't go then he had a broadcast about to go live revealing the Flash's secret identity to the world. The sad thing is I was really enjoying the episode up to this point.
Things picked up a little bit towards the very end. First Caitlin lies for Barry and claims that everything he said and did recently was because he has been having mental problems since he got hit by lightning. That's what she tells Iris and Eddie. Then, Mason Bridge gets a visitor late at night. He is at the office alone, working on a story on Dr. Wells. The man in the yellow suit shows up. After he finds out that everything Bridge knows is on his computer (what? no back up on the company server??) he kills him and then wipes out his computer.
A little later Barry is at STAR Labs talking to Dr. Wells about what happened with the Rogues earlier that night. A news story pops up on the screen saying that Mason Bridge has disappeared. It seems a little fast for such a story to go public but whatever. Barry looks like he is about to tell Dr. Wells about the story when he changes his mind, turns off the screen and leaves. He meets with Joe at CCPD HQ. He tells Joe he thinks he might be right about Dr. Wells.
Why does Barry suspect Dr. Wells to be responsible for the disappearance of Mason Bridge? My best guess is that he knew Bridge was investigating Wells so therefore Wells immediately becomes the prime suspect. I don't recall Barry telling Dr. Wells about what he heard when he was visiting with Iris at the newspaper, but maybe my memory is faulty.
All in all this one was a bit of a let down, far from perfect, but for the most part I liked it. I did not love it.

Flash 1.15
Out of Time
Weather Wizard, aka Mark Mardon (brother of Clyde Mardon, the villain from the pilot episode) returns for revenge on Joe West. Weather Wizard's powers are considerably more impressive than his brother's powers. He kills a coroner and almost kills Joe's boss, Captain Singh. Flash uses a device invented by Cisco to neutralize his powers but then is unable to catch the Weather Wizard because he has to get Captain Singh to the hospital before he dies.
Linda goes on a bowling date with Barry. They wind up playing with Iris and Eddie. Linda begins to suspect that there is more to her suspicions about Barry and Iris and let's Iris knows what she's thinking. Eddie more or less does the same thing later in the episode.
Mason Bridge tells Iris about his suspicions about Dr. Wells, specifically in reference to the mysterious disappearance of Simon Stagg (see episode 1.02). He knows that Dr. Wells was the last person to visit Stagg's building the night he disappeared. He also tells Barry about his suspicions about Dr. Wells.
The first time the Weather Wizard strikes Barry is with Joe and gets them both to safety. The second time is at the police station when Captain Singh is struck down. The third time and final time in this episode is when Joe is investigating an old hideout of the Mardon brothers. Throughout this episode Joe acts very emotionally. He insists that he can handle the Weather Wizard, even after he sees first hand what the villain is capable of. It was both tragic and melodramatic, and a bit of overacting for Jesse L. Martin.
Barry tells Cisco about what Mason Bridge told him about Dr, Wells. This leads Cisco to start wondering if maybe there really was something to Joe's suspicions about Dr. Wells. He tells Caitlin about his suspicions and talks her into delaying Dr. Wells the next morning. While Caitlin and Dr. Wells spend some time at Jitters, the coffee shop where Iris used to work, Cisco runs some tests on the containment unit (last seen in epiosde 1.09) that he and Dr. Wells designed to hold the Man in the Yellow Suit. He discovers something that looks like a simulation of the yellow suit wearing villain. Then Dr. Wells walks in and tells Cisco what he has been up to, that his real name is Eobard Thawne, and then he kills Cisco.
Barry and Iris rush to the waterfront after she gets a call from the Weather Wizard. He has captured her father. Barry and Iris share a moment at the waterfront before they realize what is about to happen, they talk, they kiss. When Barry sees the Weather Wizard creating a tidal wave he calls Caitlin for advice. She is at STAR Labs. It isn't clear if she has found Cisco's body yet but Dr. Wells definitely disappeared from Jitters on her. She tells him he will have to run faster than he ever had before and create a wall of wind to protect the city from the incoming tidal wave.
Barry apologizes to Iris and then changes into the Flash in front of her before telling her to get out of there. He then starts to run as fast as he can. It looks like he just might be successful when he stops suddenly and realizes that he has run so fast he has gone backward in time and is back at a point from a couple days before. That's where the episode ends.
This one was a lot of fun. So much happens. I've got a feeling that a lot of it will be undone in the next episode, including the death of Cisco, Barry and Iris opening up about their feelings for one another and kissing, and Barry revealing to Iris that he is the Flash. I'm guessing that this is another unofficial two-part story. How it will all get resolved I have no idea.

Flash 1.14
Fallout
This is part two of the story that began in the previous episode, even though it is not labeled as such. This two-part story does not feature the first appearances of Dr. Martin Stein, Ronnie Raymond, and Firestorm but they are definitely the focus of it.
Barry gets himself and Dr. Snow clear of the blast that occurred when Firestorm "exploded" at the end of the previous episode. Once they realize that there is no danger of radioactive contamination they go back to investigate the blast site and find the two men separated once again. They take them back to S.T.A.R. Labs to run some tests on them. For the most part everything seems normal. The two men try to return to their previous lives only to discover that a couple things have changed.
The first thing they find is that they now share a symbiotic relationship in that when one feels pain the other one does too. I have to wonder why is it just pain that they share? Why not pleasurable sensations too? This symbiotic nature of their existence warns Dr. Stein when Ronnie is in danger even though they are miles apart. He calls Barry and tells him so he can come to Ronnie's rescue. This brings in the second thing which was seen at the very end of the previous episode, the return of General Wade Eiling.
General Eiling wants to capture Firestorm and figure out how to reverse engineer him. He wants super-soldiers with Firestorm's powers under his command. He first tries to capture Ronnie but Flash interferes with that plan. Even though the general isn't successful he came prepared for Flash with a weapon that causes him some serious harm, temporarily. This is a set back for Eiling but he isn't ready to give up just yet. His next move is to convince Dr. Wells to do his dirty work for him. It is unclear why Dr. Wells helps the general but he knocks out Dr. Stein with a glass of scotch that presumably was laced with some sort of drug. Eiling comes in and takes the unconscious doctor away.
The good guys use the symbiotic relationship between Dr. Stein and Ronnie to locate the former and free him. The two men, for the first time, merge into Firestorm willingly. Together with the Flash they defeat General Eiling and his men. Their part of this story ends with them flying off to Pittsburgh in an attempt to stay one step ahead of the general.
Most of the action revolves around Firestorm but there are a couple other plot threads that get some screen time in this episode.
Iris gets talked into investigating S.T.A.R Labs by Mason Bridge, her colleague. As she begins to investigate she starts to notice some inconsistencies in the facts she gets from Caitlin. I am sure this will be pursued further.
Joe reveals to Barry what he and Cisco discovered in the last episode: that he will time travel back to the night his mother was murdered and attempt to stop the other speedster from killing her. It bothers Barry that he knows he won't be successful. It is just a minor setback. He quickly decides that what he needs to do is learn from the evidence they have found so that he can change the past. I think, based on what little I have heard about the end of this season, that this is what is going to happen.
There are a number of things that get cleared up very quickly without explanation. The prime example in my mind is the effects of the weapon that General Eiling uses on the Flash when he comes to Ronnie Raymond's rescue. It looks pretty serious. He has hundreds of little needles sticking out of his skin. Without explanation, after a scene shift the needles have all been removed. The story flows along nicely so there was plenty of other things to keep my attention but still, how did they fix him up so quickly?
A couple other thoughts. First, I'm wondering if Caitlin Snow's exposure to the blast at the beginning of this episode will be the catalyst that will give her super powers. In the comic books Caitlin Frost is the civilian name of the villain known as Killer Frost. I don't recall what her origin was there or if she was a scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs before acquiring superpowers and becoming a villain.
Second, in the final scene Dr. Wells is shown wearing the Reverse Flash costume, I think for the first time. He pays a visit to General Eiling, whisks him away, and delivers him to Gorilla Grodd. Is General Eiling dead? I hope not but if not I'm not sure what comes next for him. When is Grodd going to get his own episode. This marks the third time he has appeared. What about Solivar? Gorilla City?
Overall I enjoyed this two-part story very much.

Flash 1.13
The Nuclear Man
Dr. Stein returns. He is in the body of Ronnie Raymond. The only sighting of Dr. Stein in his own body is in a flashback to a memory Barry has of meeting him about a year ago, before he gained his speed powers.
Cisco and Detective West investigate the murder of Barry's mother. They visit the home that Barry lived in when he was a kid. Using some high tech gadget Cisco is able to pick up some readings which leads them to peel back the wallpaper. Behind the wallpaper are bloodstains. Cisco has the bloodstains tested. There is blood from two different people. One is Barry, adult Barry.
Barry goes on a date with Linda. All is going well until he gets a call from STAR Labs just as things are getting hot and heavy. Linda isn't happy but the next day she forgives him until he gets another call (just as they are making plans for another date) and runs off again. Linda has a chat with Iris about Barry which leaves Linda thinking that Barry had feelings for Iris that were not reciprocated. Barry calls again and Linda tells him what she learned. He pulls a crazy stunt, eating a hot pepper, and Linda agrees to give him another chance.
With some help from Dr. Stein's wife the STAR Labs team tracks down Dr. Stein/Ronnie Raymond. They bring him back to the lab, clean him up and give him some medication that help him to control his emotional state. They want to separate Stein and Raymond but they soon learn that his body is about to go nuclear. Stein/Raymond wanders off. Flash and Caitlin go after him with a device created by Dr. Wells and Cisco, a quantum splicer. They get the device to Stein/Raymond but then he goes nuclear which is noticed by General Eiling.
Pretty good but not great. I did enjoy the dating drama and emotional turmoil experienced by Barry, Linda, and Iris. For the first time it seems like Iris is jealous because Barry is seeing someone. I guess she is worried she will lose him to Linda.

Flash 1.12
Crazy for You
Cisco lets Hartley, the villain from last episode, out of lock up. Hartley has promised to help him find out what happened to Ronnie Raymond. Despite the animosity between he and Hartley, Cisco lets him out. Hartley shows Cisco what he knows about Ronnie's disappearance which includes a brief appearance of Dr. Stein. They also more or less explain what happened to Dr. Stein and Ronnie Raymond. Of course Hartley tricks Cisco in the end and escapes.
A new villain appears on the scene. As of yet she doesn't have a code name. Her real name is Shawna Baez. Caitlin suggests that they call her Peekaboo but that doesn't seem to stick. Shawna breaks her boyfriend out of Iron Heights. She has the ability to teleport with the restriction that she has to be able to see the place to which she is teleporting. With some help from Barry's Dad, who is still in Iron Heights, the Flash is able to track down and eventually catch Shawna. Clay Parker, her boyfriend gets away. His disappearance seems kind of sudden and makes me wonder if her powers rubbed off on him.
Barry and Caitlin commiserate over their non-existent personal lives, first at S.T.A.R. Labs and later at a bar. Caitlin gets hammered and gets Barry to sing karaoke with her: Summer Lovin' from Grease. Barry gets approached by a woman after singing, it seems like she is hitting on him. Her name is Linda Park. It turns out she is a coworker of Iris although they work in separate department at the newspaper and don't know one another. The episode ends with Barry going out on a date with Linda. Iris looked disappointed when she saw Barry at the newspaper only to discover that he wasn't there to see her.
A few scenes before Barry met Linda for a date it looked like Caitlin was ready to move on and give up on Ronnie ever coming back. It also looked like she was interested in Barry but he didn't reciprocate that interest.
If I remember correctly Linda Park in the comic books was married to Wally West, not Barry Allen. I'm going to try to not look ahead to see how many episodes Linda will be appearing in. I could see their relationship lasting the rest of the season but it could also be over in the next episode.
Barry's Dad appears in three scenes. First he offers to help by finding out what he can about Clay Parker. Barry returns to the prison for another visit after his father is stabbed. Barry returns for one more visit near the end of the episode. Henry, Barry's Dad, seems to know that his son is the Flash. This goes back to episode 3 when Henry got a quick look at the Flash. Barry doesn't say he is the Flash but the way he talks makes it seem like isn't denying the fact either.
The final scene is of a couple guys from the power company walking around the sewers only to find the name Grodd written on wall. Then they are attacked and presumably killed by an ape or a gorilla. Gorilla Grodd presumably.
This was a fun episode. I liked all the twists and turns and the way that relationships changed or progressed. I also like the new villain.

Flash 1.11
The Sound and the Fury
Dr. Wells gets attacked at home by someone from his past, Hartley Rathaway. Wells isn't injured in the attack but lots of glass is shattered. It turns out that Rathaway is using some sort of sonic technology as a weapon. Rathaway used to be a protege of Dr. Wells but they had a falling out, ostensibly over the reactor which gave so many people their powers, including Barry, but it is hinted that there may be other reasons. Rathaway warned Wells that the reactor was unsafe but Wells insisted on proceding with it.
Rathaway and Cisco have a past too. They butted heads from the first day that Cisco started working at STAR Labs. Their relationship is still just as contentious now as it was when they first met. Rathaway names himself the Pied Piper which annoys Cisco who claims that he gives out the names, but then admits that it isn't a bad choice.
There is something about the way that Rathaway acts in the flashbacks that along with other things that are said lead me to wonder if he had a romantic relationship with Dr. Wells. It may not have been something that lasted but he is gay and does act a bit like a spurned lover.
Rathaway allows himself to be captured by the Flash during their first encounter. After they have locked him up he breaks out and breaks into STAR Labs computer system. The information he stole allows him to augment his sonic weaponry to make it much more dangerous to the Flash. In their final battle it is only thanks to the intervention of Dr. Wells that the Flash survives.
Iris, away from the fighting, gets a job at Central City Picture News. She wants to distance herself from her blog about the Flash but it quickly becomes clear that her editor wants her to write stories about Flash. She is paired with a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter who at least as first seems annoyed that he has to help her learn the ropes.
Joe doesn't play a big part in this episode but towards the end he talks to Eddie about investigating Dr. Wells. He thinks that there is something suspicious about the man, especially how he survived the attack on his home unscathed despite being confined to a wheelchair. Eddie seems eager to help Joe in this project. I think I am starting to see now how Eddie will become the Reverse Flash.
There are lots of little nuggets of information dropped in this episode in addition to the ones mentioned above. Dr. Wells uses his speed powers but they only work briefly. In the reveal at the end of the episode he is seen trying to augment them using a device. Rathaway tells Cisco at the end of the episode that he knows what happened to and where to find Ronnie Raymond.
I really liked this episode.

Flash 1.10
Revenge of the Rogues
Captain Cold and Heatwave return. Captain Cold has a plan which seems to involve revealing the existence of the Flash to Central City. Up to now Flash has only been a rumor. Very few people have actually seen him. Heatwave just wants to burn things. This is consistent with the way they have been played in Legends of Tomorrow.
Iris moves out of her Dad's home and moves in with Eddie. Barry chooses to move back in with Joe. Caitlin starts to investigate Firestorm, the name that Ronnie used for himself in 1.09. Her investigation leads her to a grad student named Jason Rusch who drops the name of Dr. Martin Stein. Before she gets any further in her investigation she is kidnapped by Captain Cold and Heatwave. They want to fight the Flash. When he doesn't make it easy to find him they decide to capture an acquaintance of his.
The Flash finally comes out to play. In one of the more contrived plot twists Cisco tells Flash that in order to neutralize their weapons he needs to get them to fire right at each other, cross the streams, just like in Ghostbusters. Instead of Flash figuring it out on the fly the whole end to the fight is telegraphed. When he eventually does get them to cross the streams it is because he has slowed down and they are firing at him with their guns. What's unclear is why their guns aren't doing him any great harm.
Captain Cold and Heatwave are being hauled away by the police to prison. They are arguing when the van is stopped and the back doors open up. They are rescued by someone that Captain Cold refers to as Sis. The way he is acting this is all part of his plan.
Not my favorite episode. Part of it felt a bit forced, probably could have been handled better. Not a bad episode, but a lesser one by this show's standards.

Flash 1.09
The Man in the Yellow Suit
The Christmas episode, hence the title. Ronnie Raymond returns plus the Reverse Flash makes his first appearance.
The man in the yellow suit appears. The man who Joe and Barry believe killed his mother. Like Barry he is a speedster but he is faster than Barry. In his first encounter with the guy Barry gets beaten up. After procuring a gadget from another high tech firm, Mercury Labs, Dr. Wells' crew sets a trap to catch the Reverse Flash. It seems to work but then he breaks out and starts beating up Dr. Wells. He takes down most of the other policemen on hand but hesitates once Joe and Eddie are the only two left standing. It looks like I was wrong about Eddie being the Reverse Flash, at least for now. The Flash shows up and fights the Reverse Flash.
Caitlin has a brief encounter with Ronnie Raymond, her fiancee, who was killed in the explosion that gave Barry and a number of other people their powers. He manifests some sort of flame based powers. She gets Cisco's help finding him but he refuses their help and seems to have forgotten who he once was. He shows up one final time near the end of the episode and breaks up the fight between Flash and Reverse Flash. At the moment Reverse Flash was winning the fight but runs off after Ronnie hits him with flames. Before flying away Ronnie tells them to call him Firestorm.
Eddie asks Iris to move in with him. Iris is excited but Barry not so much. Eddie thinks that Barry may still be carrying a torch for Iris. He lets her know, she thinks it is a silly idea but after having a chat with Caitlin she asks him if he has romantic feelings for her. He lies and tells her that he doesn't. It isn't until after he visits his father in prison that he decides he has to tell her the truth.
The final scene is of Dr. Wells in his secret chamber at STAR Labs. He has a ring with a Flash logo on it. He uses it to unlock another secret room which holds a Reverse Flash costume. I guess this means that Dr. Wells was the Reverse Flash? I'm a little confused. I'm sure there's an explanation, reasonable or otherwise, but I'm having trouble putting two and two together and coming up with four.
Far from perfect but it was far better than the last episode and introduced some new elements that at least for the moment are intriguing.

Flash 1.08
Flash vs. Arrow
Oliver, Felicity, and Diggle come to town. They are looking for a villain who uses boomerangs. Barry suggests that he and Oliver team up. Barry's villain of this week is a metahuman whose power is glowing eyes that cause people to become homicidal. Early in the episode he uses it to help cause a distraction while he robs a bank. Ollie isn't interested in teaming up, at first.
Eventually they do team up but then Dr. Wells and Detective West try to talk Barry out of hanging with the vigilante of Starling City. Ollie tries to train Barry, who doesn't take kindly to Oliver's training methods, which include shooting him in the back with arrows. Barry decides to go it alone when he gets a tip on the location of the metahuman. He gets zapped by the glowing eyes but it doesn't seem to affect him until later when he goes from disgruntled to homicidal.
Eddie has now accepted the existence of the Flash and decided that the Flash is a menace. This happens before the Flash becomes homicidal. Eddie tries to convince Captain Singh of the need to create a task force to stop the Flash. At first that idea goes nowhere but after the Flash beats up Eddie and Arrow is spotted around town, Captain Singh decides to go ahead with Eddie's idea.
The end of this episode was disappointing to say the least. Out of nowhere Dr. Wells figures out that what they need are flashing colored lights to cure the Flash of his homicidal rage. That was kind of silly. The other disappointing aspect to the end was how they jumped from Barry and Ollie chatting about catching the metahuman to them locking him up with nothing in between. No fight, no nothing. One minute they are talking about finding this guy and the next minute they are locking him up. Very disappointing.
Felicity had things to do, like bond with Caitlin and advise Oliver that he was acting stupid. Diggle did not really, he just stood around and made inconsequential comments every now and then. Diggle is a man of action. I don't mind the quippy dialogue but if they are going to include him in the episode they should have him doing more than they did here.
On the whole not a great episode. Much of the drama seemed staged. The best part of the episode was the continuing evolution of Eddie. It was also interesting to see Iris turn on the Flash after he beat up Eddie. She was there when it happened and she tried to talk him down but he wouldn't listen and then the Arrow showed up. So Iris seems to have lost fascination with the Flash. My guess is that before it comes back Eddie will become the Reverse Flash and she will discover that Barry is actually the Flash.
The final scene of the episode reveals that Ronnie Raymond is still alive. I'm eager to see where that goes.

Flash 1.07
Power Outage
Barry loses his powers after he confronts a metahuman with electrical powers. Farouk, the metahuman, tracks down Barry and Dr. Wells at STAR Labs. He blames Dr, Wells for the death of his two friends who he accidentally killed on the fateful night when he gained his powers. Dr. Wells releases Tony, the bully from the previous episode, hoping that he can provide a distraction while the STAR Labs team tries to figure out how to restore Barry's powers.
The Clock King is being held at Central City Police Headquarters temporarily when he escapes from police custody. He takes some hostages including Joe and Iris West. Eddie isn't one of the hostages but he tries to take down the Clock King only to get badly wounded by the villain. In the end Iris saves the day although it isn't exactly clear how she took down the Clock King.
At STAR Labs, Tony is killed by Farouk. Barry regains his superpowers. Farouk is defeated by Barry when he tries again to drain Barry's powers. Farouk is killed in the process of doing so. It is the act of draining Barry's powers and not something that Barry does that defeats him. Afterwards it is explained that Barry's DNA has changed and that's what did Farouk in.
In the scene where Farouk confronts Dr. Wells, the doctor names a number of people who dies on the night that Barry and Farouk got their powers. A number of the names were familiar (from comic books) but the only ones that stuck with me are Ralph Dibney, Ronnie Raymond, and Al Rothstein.
In the final scene Dr. Wells is seen taking a blood sample from the body of Farouk. He says something about wanting to know what it is like to steal the powers of the Flash,
Over all a good but not great episode. I did like the twin stories. Neither of them was great but the way they unfolded kept me on the edge of my seat eager to see what happened in the end.
---
Two more thoughts:
Joe West didn't get to be much of a featured player in this episode. His one moment that I liked was the look on his face after Iris noticed that Barry's favorite mug was broken. Joe was the one who dropped it, on purpose, to test and see if Barry really had lost his speed.
Eddie has a second moment, the first being in the previous episode, when he sees Barry do something faster than should have been humanly possible. All of this has to be leading up to him discovering that Barry is the Flash and then getting super powers himself and becoming a super-villain.

Flash 1.06
The Flash Is Born
- another metahuman appears on the scene in Central City; this one is a bully from Barry and Iris' past; he can turn his body into steel; he tracks Iris down through her blog about the "streak" which she won't give up despite the Flash's continued requests that she do so
- Flash gets beaten up pretty good the first time he tries taking on the Tony (aka bully); Cisco figures out that what Barry needs to do is hit Tony while he is running at mach 1.1 which should temporarily neutralize Tony's powers
- Barry gets teamed up with Eddie while they are looking for information on Tony; Barry uses his super speed to get ahead of a suspect who is trying to flee; I've gotta a feeling that is going to come back to haunt Barry because I think that may later be a clue for Eddie as to who Barry really is
- Joe continues to investigate the murder of Barry's mother; he interrogates Dr. Wells who has something to hide and probably knows something about the death of Barry's mother but doesn't crack and resents Joe's questions and his approach; after a bit of tiff, Joe apologizes and tries to make it up to Dr. Wells bu buying him a bottle of scotch; at the very end of the episode Joe gets a visit from someone moving at super speed who presumably is not Barry and threatens Iris life if Joe doesn't stop his investigation; my first guess about the identity of the yellow speedster is Reverse Flash but maybe there's some misdirection going on here and it will turn out to be someone else
- fun episode, better than the last one; love how they continue to expand the season long story line

Flash 1.05
Plastique
- Barry tries to convince Iris, both in his civilian and superhero identities, to stop writing about him; but not until after she sees the Streak; he does this partly because Joe pushes him to do it; he isn't very successful at convincing her; Iris doesn't understand why Barry doesn't want her to write about the Streak; she still thinks that he is hiding something, which he is; he has a crush on her and he is the man that she has been writing about
- the villain this time around isn't a superhero but a general, General Eiling; I didn't notice how many stars he had on his collar so I'm not sure what his rank is exactly; he is played by Clancy Brown who also does the voice of Lex Luthor on Justice League and JLU and played Colonel Schoonover on season 2 of Daredevil
- the other metahuman in this episode is Plastique (aka Bette Sans Souci); she is yet another person who gained their powers from the same event that Barry his powers; if I understood correctly she was an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) expert in the army prior to gaining her powers; she had been wounded in Afghanistan and was brought back to the Central City to recover; her power is that she can cause anything she touches to explode; the team at STAR Labs tries to help her but in the end Dr Wells convinces her (when no one else is around) that she should kill General Eiling; she tries but gets distracted by Flash and in that moment Eiling kills her
- in terms of the expansion of his power set or his bag of tricks Flash runs up a building and across water for the first time in this episode; Barry also discovers that conventional alcohol has no effect on him
- the teaser at the end provides the first glimpse at Grodd, in a flashback to five years before when Dr Wells was working with General Eiling
- not a great episode; the best moments are the ones between Barry and Iris; she's gonna find out his secret identity; it's just a matter of time; I wasn't crazy about the Plastique story; there was nothing inherently wrong with the way it was conceived but I didn't think the actress who played Plastique was good in the role

Flash 1.04
Going Rogue
- Felicity (from Arrow) comes to Central City to see Barry; Iris does what she can to push Barry to get something going with Felicity but unbeknownst to Iris, Felicity isn't the one that Barry really has eyes for
- a new villain appears on the scene, Captain Cold; he doesn't have superpowers of his own but he does have a super powerful weapon, a cold gun, which was stolen from STAR Labs; the gun was invented by Cisco; having already seen season 1 of Legends of Tomorrow I knew more or less what to expect from Captain Cold so no surprises there
- Joe continues to have problems with Iris dating his partner although by the end of the episode he seems a little more accepting of their relationship that he was in the beginning; there are some great comedic moments when Eddie tries talking to Joe about Iris and Joe doesn't want to have anything to do with it; once again Jessie L. Martin nails it and adds that touch of reality that the show needs
- Captain Cold gets away in the end and the final scene doesn't involve Dr Wells; instead the final features Captain Cold and someone in the shadows who has to be Heat Wave; although it is hard to tell if it is the same actor doing that scene that will play Heat Wave later on (Dominic Purcell) according to IMdb it is the same actor
- Barry and Felicity finally kiss at the end of the episode although it doesn't seem much more than friendly
- all in all a really good episode
